Summary of Position: The AI Learning Specialist plays a central role in advancing IWU-N&G's mission to transform online and hybrid education through the exploration and implementation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies. Reporting to the Director of the Future Learning Lab (FLL), the Specialist designs and executes strategies and initiatives that leverage AI to enhance student engagement, retention, and success. This position collaborates with faculty, instructional designers, technologists, and external vendors to create innovative, future-ready learning experiences, while upholding the university’s Christian values and ethical principles.
Duties and Responsibilities
- AI Integration and Strategy
- Research and implement AI-powered tools and strategies to improve curriculum design, student engagement, and learning outcomes
- Develop initiatives such as AI-driven student support systems to identify and address at-risk students proactively
- Pilot and evaluate AI technologies to enhance online and hybrid education at IWU-N&G
- Design AI literacy programs to equip students with the skills to use AI tools effectively and ethically
- Collaboration
- Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to integrate AI tools and strategies into new and existing courses
- Partner with faculty, instructional designers, technologists, and vendors to embed AI and emerging technologies into courses
- Work with cross-functional teams to create AI-driven resources, training, and modules for faculty and students
- Research, Development, and Evaluation
- Conduct research on the latest developments in AI, blockchain, immersive reality, and related fields to inform future learning strategies
- Explore and develop best practices for incorporating AI into teaching and learning, with a focus on ethical considerations and student success
- Use data analytics to assess the effectiveness of AI-driven initiatives and recommend improvements
- Report on the impact of AI technologies on student engagement, retention, and thriving
- Training and Support
- Provide training to faculty on using AI tools for teaching and learning
- Support students and faculty in navigating AI-enhanced educational platforms and resources
- Develop workshops and seminars on the ethical use of AI, including topics like algorithmic bias, data privacy, and societal impacts, grounded in Christian values
Qualifications: According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Education
- Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field preferred; Ph.D. is an asset
- Candidates with extensive, relevant work experience may also be considered in lieu of an advanced degree
Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in AI applications in education, online learning, or related fields
- Experience designing and implementing innovative curriculum solutions that leverage emerging technologies
- Familiarity with adult learning theories, Quality Matters standards, and online education best practices
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of AI technologies (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing) and their applications in education
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders
- Exceptional collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively partner with diverse stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, designers, technologists, and vendors
- Ability to develop and deliver training and professional development resources
- Commitment to ethical innovation and the integration of Christian values in technology use
