The Opportunity

Orijin is seeking a hands-on, mission-driven Controller to lead the next chapter of our accounting and financial operations. The goal of the Controller is to manage the accounting and finance functions within Orijin and ensure that Orijin scales successfully as the business increases in size. 

As Controller, you will own the accounting function and be a key partner in financial strategy, systems, and reporting. You'll bring strong GAAP expertise, a deep understanding of SaaS revenue recognition, and a builder’s mindset to a high-growth, fast-paced environment. This role will also be responsible for getting us prepared for our external audit and will help drive company initiatives. The Controller will report to the CFO.  

We are looking for a Controller who will drive the following outcomes:

  • Develop and finalize accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee, revamp and deliver SaaS reporting metrics and other business metrics.
  • Revamp and improve current reporting to business and Board. 
  • Resolve outstanding accounting issues in accordance with GAAP. Specifically; inventory, cost accounting, ASC 606, Software - Capitalization SOP 98.1, Milestone accounting, Percentage of Completion.
  • Lead external audit preparation and ensure compliance with all relevant GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and internal control frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting Operations & Compliance
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process with accuracy and speed.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure full GAAP compliance.
  • Oversee general ledger, account reconciliations, and the day-to-day accounting cycle.
  • Manage the relationship with external auditors, preparing audit materials and ensuring successful audits.
  • Coordinate compliance with tax, regulatory, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Technical Accounting & Revenue Recognition
  • Apply and operationalize ASC 606 revenue recognition standards.
  • Support capitalization of software development costs (SOP 98-1) and ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Review customer contracts and guide internal teams on appropriate revenue recognition methods.
  • Serve as the company’s technical accounting expert, translating complexity into clear guidance.
  • Systems, Tools & Process Improvement
  • Optimize and own our NetSuite ERP system; lead system upgrades and integrations.
  • Identify and implement automation and process improvement opportunities across the accounting workflow.
  • Ensure systems and structures scale with the company’s growth trajectory.
  • FP&A and Strategic Finance Partnership
  • Own and evolve the annual budget and rolling forecasts.
  • Partner with the CFO on cash flow planning, strategic finance initiatives, and investor reporting.
  • Analyze financial performance and support business leaders with actionable insights.
  • Help define and improve financial KPIs, dashboards, and reporting infrastructure.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Manage and develop a high-performing accounting team.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, People, Product, and Sales to support org-wide planning and execution.
  • Hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff as needed.
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the CFO and represent CFO with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Be a values-aligned voice of clarity, accountability, and financial discipline in company leadership.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with integrated financial tech stacks such as Bill.com, Salesforce, and FP&A tools preferred.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to New York City
  • CPA (active or inactive) required
  • 7–10 years of experience, including time in a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
  • Deep experience with NetSuite and modern accounting software.
  • Proven expertise in GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and SOP 98-1.
  • Background in startup or high-growth environments strongly preferred.
  • Strong communicator and leader with a collaborative mindset and high integrity.

Eligible for 15% annual bonus
