What You’ll Do
In the Career Mentor role, you are responsible for the placement of Tech Academy graduates within their field of study. The Career Mentor works directly with learners and graduates to put into practice the skills and strategies learned during mentor sessions and/or the IT Career Prep course, build confidence in the job search process, ensure employment readiness, and provide additional career coaching as needed. The Career Mentor also proactively sources job leads through cold-calling, job boards, internet sourcing, networking, employer visits within the community, and other means, to deliver effective workshops guiding learners through applications. The Career Mentor must also verify employment records of graduates by gathering required documentation which meets all federal, state, VA, accreditation, and company guidelines; and input graduate employment data into our CRM.
What You’ll Do:
- Promote awareness of career paths, opportunities, labor markets and job requirements to learners and graduates
- Deliver compelling presentations that incite meaningful action from our learners and graduates
- Conduct comprehensive needs assessments with potential employers to understand their workforce requirements and talent challenges
- Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses and community organizations with the goal of providing job or apprenticeship opportunities to learners and graduates
- Collaborate with industry leaders and stakeholders to understand evolving workforce needs and align our talent solution accordingly
- Plan and host professional development programs or career fairs
What You’ll Need (Requirements):
- Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, or other related field.
- Substitution: Experience in career services, staffing/recruiting, human resources, or workforce development may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- One year experience in career services, staffing/recruiting, human resources, or workforce development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Salesforce CRM or similar platforms
- A background in vocational education or career training programs
Skills:
- Excellent understanding of career development theories, counseling techniques, and job market trends
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire learners, graduates and employers
- Familiarity with online job search platforms, networking strategies, and social media for professional branding
- Event set up and delivery including, but not limited to, internal and external promotion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills

- Act as a trusted advisor to students and a reliable talent connector for employers.
