We are seeking a Data and Impact Intern to support our newly implemented data warehouse through data quality auditing, data validating, and improving data sets related to the reach and impact of our resources. This position is ideal for students pursuing a degree in information or data science or professionals beginning their career in a related field. You will gain hands-on data governance experience in a nonprofit setting. We’re looking for someone who can have an immediate and meaningful impact on our work.

This position reports to the Director of Data.

About the position

The Data and Impact Intern is responsible for supporting the data quality and improvement work of NLP. Primary duties include reviewing and maintaining (cleaning, organizing, blending) user and resource data; identifying ways to improve data quality processes and systems; and conducting ad hoc queries and analysis to support NLP’s programs and operations. This position has a key role supporting the data warehouse and analytics platforms.

Specifically, in this job, you will:

Perform checks on data for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and uniqueness.
Identify and resolve data discrepancies, document recurring issues, and help develop solutions to improve data integrity.
Create summaries, reports, and visualizations to communicate data insights to teams.
Support data governance initiatives, including designing and evaluating data operating procedures.
Research data reporting tools, practices, and standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that data standards align with organizational goals.

About you

As the Data & Impact Intern, you will partner with the Director of Data to improve and maintain data quality and data governance at NLP. While we do not expect candidates to meet all qualifications, the successful candidate will have all or most of the following:

Pursuing or holds a bachelor's degree in information science, data science, or related field; or equivalent experience analyzing or managing large data sets.
Strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze complex data challenges, identify patterns, and develop practical solutions.
Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and resolving data-related issues with a logical and structured approach.
Demonstrated experience with Excel or Google Sheets.
Familiarity with data warehouse, analytics, CRM, or project management platforms generally, or Snowflake, Sigma Computer, EveryAction, and Notion specifically.
Familiarity with programming languages such as SQL is a plus but not required.
Ability and willingness to learn new concepts.
Ability to work well independently and under direct supervision.

Compensation and benefits

This position involves a maximum of 25 hours per week with pay starting at $17 per hour. This is a non-exempt position and is not eligible for benefits. This position is virtual. Highly qualified candidates who live in, and are authorized to work in, the United States are encouraged to apply.

Our Hiring Process

Candidates selected to participate will be asked to complete a brief skills assessment (1 hour) and 1-2 rounds of virtual interviews (1-2 hours total). Interviews are conducted one-on-one and in group settings.

Finalists will be asked to provide references.
