Open Rank, Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Cybersecurity

The Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for an open rank faculty position to add to IU’s research leadership in Cybersecurity, at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. We seek exceptional researchers and educators whose work advances the theory and practice of cybersecurity to join the Department of Informatics at the Luddy School.

We welcome applicants in all areas of cybersecurity but are particularly interested in candidates whose research bridges technical cybersecurity (e.g., systems/network security; applied cryptography; security informatics) and human aspects of cybersecurity (e.g., policy or governance; trusted computing; the design of usable and inclusive security and privacy technologies; security and safety of AI systems; cyber risk management; international cybersecurity policy; law and privacy; and accessible security).

Successful applicants will join a collaborative academic campus-wide cybersecurity community spanning Luddy, the O’Neill School of Public Policy, Hamilton-Lugar School of Global and International Studies, Maurer School of Law, Kelley School of Business, Cognitive Science Program, Psychology and Brain Sciences, the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research (CACR), and the Ostrom Workshop, with opportunities for joint appointments, cross-listed teaching, and interdisciplinary doctoral advising.

The Luddy School is home to internationally recognized centers in security and privacy, and offers a supportive environment for impactful research, teaching, and mentorship. Faculty will contribute to our strong academic programs in cybersecurity, including our multi-disciplinary collaborations across campus such as the BS in Cybersecurity and Global Policy and the MS in Cybersecurity Risk Management programs.

Qualified faculty may also collaborate with IU Research and the Indiana University Applied Research Center (ARC) in Bloomington. ARC brings together government, military, industry, and academic partners to address complex national security challenges. Within its secure facilities, researchers work on critical areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cyber-physical systems, microelectronics, autonomous systems, advanced materials, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies.

These 10-month faculty appointments have a preferred start date of August 1, 2027, although an earlier or later start date is negotiable. Applications received by December 1, 2026, will receive full consideration; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Responsibilities: Tenured/tenure track faculty at Indiana University Bloomington are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of their department by developing and/or maintaining a robust research portfolio including pursuing and obtaining major extramural research funding to conduct cutting-edge research both as a corresponding principal investigator and a collaborating investigator; teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students as designated by the department chairperson; and actively providing service within the department, school, and university alongside active engagement with the profession and/or the community.

These positions are located on the campus of Indiana University, Bloomington (IUB) in Bloomington, Indiana, and the successful candidate is expected to work on the IUB campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Indiana University bases its tenure and promotion recommendations upon performance in the three areas of research, teaching, and service. All individuals hired through this initiative are expected to excel in research and provide strong performance in teaching and service.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in computer science, informatics, engineering, or a related field from an accredited educational institution, and demonstrate a strong record of research productivity and potential for (or evidence of) excellence in teaching and service. Candidates for associate and full professor positions must demonstrate a sustained record of scholarly leadership and impact appropriate for a senior career level.
