Demonstrated ability to collaborate interdisciplinarily, mentor students, and support film/sound editing projects.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required in media design, game design, human-computer interaction, or related field (Master's degree preferred); 2+ years of professional experience preferred but recent graduates and self-taught developers encouraged to apply. A combination of education and relevant experience demonstrating comparable knowledge will be considered.

Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $65,000 – $85,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

The Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics, part of the Dietrich College, is seeking a Digital Learning Experience Developer to join our team supporting creation and curation of immersive, interactive learning experiences to sustain and support language and cultural education. The Developer will also engage in a broader range of tasks, including the provision of language learning media support, wider student engagement, and informing research efforts in the area of technology-enhanced language and culture learning.

This role is ideal for someone working at the intersection of art, culture and technology, applying your technical skills in game design (Unity), 3D modeling, and multimedia production in the creation of new work.

Reporting to the Director of the Kenner Room for Immersive Technologies in Language and Culture, and the Director of Technology-Enhanced Learning, you will be responsible for designing and implementing immersive media experiences while supporting student- and faculty-led projects and contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration throughout the university on work as diverse as AI, Computer-Assisted Language Learning, Computational Humanities, and other Learning Technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop immersive, experimental storytelling experiences using Unity and other platforms such as WebGL and the Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK).
  • Create and optimize experiences for VR/AR headsets, such as Meta Quest, HTC Vive, and mixed-reality platforms, ensuring smooth functionality across platforms.
  • Manage a specialized resource studio, oversee student workers, handle a budget, and maintain equipment.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across campus, including the library and other humanities departments, to create artistic, cultural and education experiences.
  • Contribute to personal artistic development projects that expand your own portfolio and enhance the department's reputation as a hub for immersive creativity.
  • Assist in the strategic planning for the integration of emerging technologies into creative projects and educational programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required (Master's Degree preferred) in media design, game design, human-computer interaction, or related field.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with 2+ years of experience; however, those recently trained, graduated or self-taught are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with VR/AR headsets, Oculus, HTC, HoloLens, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of Unity
  • WebGL experience is highly desirable
  • Experience using Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK)
  • Understanding of ARCore and ARkit
  • Ability to support or contribute to film/sound editing projects a plus
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
