Summary

Business Systems Analyst at OCLC responsible for eliciting, analyzing, documenting, and validating system behavior for library technology solutions. The role bridges business requirements and technical development to deliver prioritized value in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities: Elicit and document detailed technical requirements, facilitate story card refinement with development teams, perform current state analysis of business systems, and maintain a well-refined backlog for software delivery. Collaborate with Product and XD teams to incorporate usability needs and clarify requirements throughout the software development lifecycle.
Skills & Tools: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Visio), Agile tools (JIRA, Confluence), and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while working with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline with 4+ years of experience as a Business Analyst and 4+ years of overall IT experience including software development. Experience with both Waterfall and Agile/Lean methodologies, requirements management, and project planning/facilitation required.
Location: Dublin, Ohio, United States
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $70,000 – $95,000/year based on title, seniority, and location.

The Job Details are as follows:


The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for the elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation of system behavior. They should understand basic principles of project management and business engagement. They should emphasize business focus on prioritized value, attention to detail, quality, and efficient delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Elicit and document detailed technical requirements from Product high level requirements and use cases.
  • Engages with XD team to incorporate usability and user interface needs when designing applications and feature enhancements.
  • Facilitate story card refinement with development teams, QA and Product.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into detailed data, abstract-up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Perform current state analysis of existing business systems, applications, data and functions.
  • Answer questions and clarify requirements for projects and enhancements during the software delivery process.
  • Works independently and proactively to meet Refinement deadlines, i.e., ensuring the backlog is always adequately filled with fully refined stories.
  • Be a positive role model for the function, be an advocator for company policy, be enthusiastic about proving the value of the BSA role at OCLC.
  • Demonstrate an Agile BSA mindset to streamline process and produce fit for purpose documentation.

Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects, activities and tasks under time constraints.
  • Be an independent problem solver with the ability to creatively translate business data/requirements into technical solutions.
  • Have outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Anticipate change and quickly prioritize accordingly.
  • Be passionate about software and technology. Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent facilitation and organizational skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical discipline.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst or other related field.
  • 4+ years of overall IT experience with significant experience in software development.
  • Experience planning, facilitating, eliciting, documenting and managing business, functional and technical requirements.
  • Experience with both traditional Waterfall SDLC and Agile / Lean methodologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Products; Excel, Word and Visio.
  • Experience with project tools such as JIRA and Confluence (or other Agile tools).

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
