Summary

Staff Product Designer at Stepful responsible for creating engaging, intuitive experiences for students and educators within a healthcare training platform. The role involves designing across multiple products, managing the design system, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced EdTech/Healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities: Design intuitive product experiences for students, instructors, and coaches across native and web apps; autonomously define design opportunities and methodologies including research, wireframing, prototyping, and high-quality workflow design. Own and mature the design system, leverage quantitative and qualitative data to guide decisions, and collaborate closely with product, engineering, growth, and operations teams.
Skills & Tools: 8+ years of product design experience across mobile and web platforms; expertise in design thinking, user research, information architecture, and service design with strong collaboration skills. Deep understanding of technology, hypothesis-driven experimental mindset, and proficiency in A/B testing and data-driven product development.
Qualifications: 8+ years of professional experience focused on product design across multiple platforms; experience in EdTech or Healthcare startups is preferred. End-to-end product design approach with ability to apply diverse design methodologies and emerging technical capabilities.
Location: Hybrid in New York (In-office position at 408 Broadway, Floor 5, New York, NY; on-site availability required)

The role:

As our Staff Product Designer, you’ll be responsible for building rich, intuitive best in class experiences for students, instructors, and coaches. Your projects will range from designing delightful product experiences for students, maturing our design system, improving the platforms our coaches and instructors use daily and new products for Stepful partners.

What you’ll do:

  • Use your product thinking, visual design, and system steward skills to design rich, intuitive best in class experiences for students, instructors and coaches
  • Autonomously define opportunities and appropriate methodologies based on the shape of the problem, utilizing methods such as project prioritization and planning, conducting research, writing jobs to be done, mapping user flows, creating wireframes, prototyping, and designing high-quality workflows across our native and web apps
  • Identify opportunities for and leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to guide your design decisions and utilize a hypothesis driven experimental mindset
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, growth and operations to address challenges, manage trade-offs and get the team excited
  • Own and mature our design system to evolve our patterns, components, styles and patterns across all products

This job is for you if you have:

  • 8+ years of work experience with a focus on product design across a variety of platforms from mobile to web
  • A deep understanding of the tech that powers digital products, and how to collaborate with engineering to make the most of emerging capabilities
  • An end-to-end versus waterfall approach to product, able to apply a wide variety of product design skills (e.g., design thinking, design strategy, user problem definition, information architecture, service design)
  • Experience driving user research to understand underlying pain points and needs and inform product strategy
  • Experience building relationships with teammates, influencing decisions at a variety of levels and across multiple teams

Bonus points if:

  • You have previous startup experience especially at B2B2C or B2C EdTech/Healthcare companies
  • Experience with A/B testing or other experiment/data driven product development organizations

Compensation:

$160-200k base salary

Compensation for this role will fall within the pay range listed and will be determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications as well as interview evaluation. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.
