Key Responsibilities: Design and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training materials including guides, scenarios, videos, and assessments for technical content. Perform task analysis, partner with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts, define learning objectives, and manage multiple competing deadlines while incorporating feedback.
Skills & Tools: Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design methodologies, and task analysis. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and Teams, with demonstrated ability to create clear instructional text, scripts, and multimedia content.
Qualifications: 3+ years of experience developing technical instructor-led training and on-the-job tasks for technical skills, with proven experience in task analysis and multi-year technical training program development for adult learners.

Compensation: $62–$66/hr

Job Description

Instructional Designer

Start: Immediate

LocationSan Francisco, Bay Area Hybrid – ONSITE 2-3 times per week at bay area locations

W2 Pay Rate: $62-$66 DOE

Duration: 12/31/2026

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop instructor-led and on-the-job training for apprenticeships in the utilities industry.

• Leverage and apply established instructional design methodologies to assess stakeholder needs, analyze complex content, and evaluate delivered training.

• Develop learning materials for technical content, including hands-on practice activities, student guides, facilitator guides, scenarios, videos, assessments, simulations, and other instructional media.

• Perform a detailed task analysis for each job function, business process, or system for which training will be developed.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to conceptualize training design and content.

• Define learning objectives and course structure aligned to stakeholder needs and to meet the constraints of the learning environment.

• Work under the direction of the Senior Instructional Designer to apply company standards, guidelines, and templates.

• Write clear and effective instructional text, audio, or video scripts appropriate for the target audience.

• Participate in milestone meetings with subject matter experts, including task analysis, alpha, beta, and train-the-trainer.

• Engage with subject matter experts for ongoing content review and validation.

• Receive and incorporate feedback.

• Self-manage assigned tasks and deadlines to complete deliverables.

• Proactively communicate issues and risks.

REQUIRED

• 3+ years’ experience developing technical instructor-led training and on-the-job tasks for technical skills.

• Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design and methodologies.

• Proven experience performing task analysis.

• Strong knowledge of PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams.

• Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver against multiple competing deadlines, as needed.

Experience developing multi-year technical training programs for adult learners.
