Position Description: The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Research Scientist to lead cancer immunotherapy-based research program focused on the ways to improve T-cell homing into solid tumors. The ideal candidate will have strong background in immunology and expertise in T-cell biology including primary cell culture, expansion, manipulation and phenotyping and adoptive transfers into mice analyzing specific phenotypes. Research activities will include development and validation of methods for viral transduction of T-cells for ectopic expression of homing molecules including chemokine receptors. The position requires independent experimental design, data processing, statistical analysis, interpretation of complex datasets, and preparation of technical reports, manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations. The candidate will be expected to present findings at laboratory meetings, scientific conferences, and other professional venues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Design and implement experimental strategies to enhance T-cell homing to solid tumors. Develop methods for viral transduction of murine and human T-cells Maintain and manage complex genetically altered mice that develop spontaneous tumors such as ApcMin mice in various backgrounds including leukotriene B4 receptor BLT1-null mice and Rag-KO mice. Execute implantable tumor models in diverse mouse backgrounds and analyze tumor phenotypes in mouse models Characterize human T-cells including cancer patient derived cells and lentiviral transduction and phenotype analysis. Train graduate students, postdocs, and staff in proper instrument use. Preferred Qualifications PhD, MD, DVM, or a related doctoral degree with 4–6 years of experience in Immunology, with specific knowledge of T-cell function, regulation or related biomedical research fields. Expertise in culture, manipulation and invivo analysis of function. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong publication record and demonstrated success in collaborative research. Experience in multiomics, and translational biomedical research is desirable. Competencies Excellent communication and scientific writing skills, a strong commitment to research excellence, and the ability to work collaboratively while mentoring students and laboratory personnel.
