Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a rare creative professional who thrives equally in hands-on design execution and higher-level strategic thinking. This hybrid role bridges the gap between Art Director and Creative Director: you will design, direct, and inspire. You’ll work directly with clients and our Chief Creative Officer, while also rolling up your sleeves to deliver polished, on-brand design.

This role is ideal for a creative person who can both conceptualize and execute—someone excited to craft visual systems, build brand consistency across sub-brands, and design learning experiences that include web-based platforms, presentations, videos, and other digital media.

This position is a remote, freelance (1099) contract opportunity. The role is anticipated to require up to 30 hours per week, with the workload starting small and having the potential for substantial growth, though hours will fluctuate based on project demands. A strong, diverse portfolio is required.

Hourly Rate: $50-$55

Key Responsibilities

Creative Leadership

  • Define and maintain visual direction for client projects, ensuring alignment with brand, business goals, and learning objectives.
  • Partner with the Chief Creative Officer to conceptualize approaches for diverse learning experiences (web, video, presentations, gamified learning, etc.).
  • Establish and enforce brand guidelines for clients with multiple sub-brands, ensuring coherence while allowing for creative differentiation.
  • Provide creative leadership in brainstorms, ideation sessions, and client-facing discussions.

Design Execution

  • Produce high-quality design deliverables yourself: presentations, UI/UX prototypes, infographics, digital assets, motion storyboards, and promotional visuals.
  • Translate complex learning and business requirements into simple, elegant, and engaging design solutions.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet accessibility, usability, and inclusivity standards.
  • Stay hands-on with design tools (Figma, Adobe CC, Google Slides, etc.) while mentoring junior designers.

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Act as a creative partner to clients—listening, shaping, and confidently presenting design concepts.
  • Collaborate closely with Solution Architects, Learning Architects, Instructional Designers, and Project Managers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Provide feedback and direction to designers, animators, and illustrators, ensuring high-quality outputs that meet project requirements.
  • Help identify when additional creative resources are needed and onboard them effectively.

Strategic & Brand Stewardship

  • Research, define, and document client brand guidelines across sub-brands; maintain consistency and quality.
  • Advocate for innovative design approaches that elevate the learner and client experience.
  • Monitor industry trends (design, e-learning, technology) to keep solutions forward-looking.
  • Support internal initiatives to strengthen our brand identity and creative processes.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional design experience, including at least 2 years in an Art Director or senior design role.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both high-level concepting and refined design execution.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with senior leadership and clients.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Suite).
  • Experience working with or creating brand systems across multiple sub-brands.
  • Bonus: Experience in e-learning, instructional media, or motion/interactive design.

Required Skills:

  • 4+ years of Graphic Design and UI/UX experience
  • Clear communication and proactive leadership skills to direct and get the best and most effective results from the team
  • Critical thinking and a clear way to communicate ideas
  • Team player, open to collaboration. Neither scared of giving nor receiving constructive, honest feedback.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding, flexible, creative, and stylish design skills
  • Very good at creating and applying brand guidelines
  • Proficiency with the following software: Sketch, Figma, Adobe CC (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat), Google Suite (mostly Google Slides)
  • Self-motivated and passionate about learning

Bonus Skills:

  • Background or familiarity with adult learning (eLearning and Instructor Lead Training) and games
  • Experience working with Adapt Framework, Articulate Storyline, Rise, Learning Management Systems, etc.
  • Experience working with a remote team
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Design thinking experience
  • Knowledge in animation (After Effects)
