Job Description
Kaplan Exam Services (KES) Question Writers will play a crucial role in creating multiple-choice and essay questions that ensure exam materials are rigorous and reflective of current legal standards. Their work will contribute directly to the organization's mission of preparing individuals to excel on the bar exam by developing high-quality, legally accurate questions. Incumbents are expected to leverage their legal expertise and attention to detail to produce content that meets stringent quality and confidentiality standards.
The Manager, Kaplan Exam Services is a SME (subject matter expert) in crafting questions that adheres to standards in creating rigorous exam content.
Primary/Key Responsibilities
- Develop Multiple-Choice Questions: Craft clear, precise, and legally accurate multiple-choice questions based on standards to ensure rigorous exam content.
- Develop Essay Questions: Craft clear, precise, and legally accurate state-specific essay questions based on standards to ensure rigorous exam content.
- Ensure Legal Accuracy: Conduct thorough legal research and verification for each question to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the exam materials.
- Review and Edit Questions: Collaborate with other writers and editors to review and refine questions, ensuring clarity and eliminating ambiguities.
- Manage Drafting Team - Administratively oversees a staff of content exam drafters to ensure compliance, accuracy, and quality.
- Adhere to Confidentiality Standards: Follow strict confidentiality protocols to protect the integrity of the exam content and prevent unauthorized disclosure.
- Apply Legal Expertise: Utilize in-depth knowledge of subjects such as Constitutional Law, Contracts, and Torts to develop relevant and challenging questions.
- Integrate Feedback: Implement feedback from reviews and supervisors to improve the quality and accuracy of questions continuously.
- Update Content Regularly: Stay current with changes in the law and update questions accordingly to keep the exam content relevant and accurate.
- Meet Deadlines: Work efficiently to meet project deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality exam questions.
- Collaborate with Team Members: Engage in regular communication and collaboration with team members to align on project goals and share best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- J.D. (Juris Doctor Degree)
- 2+ years experience in the legal industry in Education and/or curriculum design.
- Passed the bar exam
- Creative thinker and Excellent communicator
- Demonstrate a strong attention to detail
- Ability to develop and mentor direct reports
Preferred Qualifications
- Previously written questions for law school and/or bar exam content

For full-time positions, Kaplan has two Salary Grades, this position is a Salary Grade B: $64,000 - $202,600. Actual compensation for this role is determined by several factors including but not limited to job level, candidate's skills, experience, and education, among other factors determined by the business.
