Role Snapshot

The High School Explainer: PACE Program provides young people aged 18-21 with paid museum work experience at the Exploratorium, engaging in interactive education and visitor support roles. Participants gain exposure to various museum disciplines while supporting the museum's mission of providing an interactive environment rich in science and the arts.

Key Responsibilities: Duties include exhibit setup and daily maintenance, performing scientific demonstrations, monitoring exhibits for proper working order, assisting visitors with special needs, and handling lost items or separated children. Participants also report maintenance issues, provide floor facilitation during After Dark programs and weekends, and perform routine biology lab duties.
Skills & Tools: Candidates must demonstrate reliability, punctuality, responsibility, and the ability to work independently while engaging effectively with the public. Strong communication and problem-solving abilities are essential for facilitating visitor interactions and troubleshooting exhibit issues.
Qualifications: Applicants must be between 18-21 years old (under 18 requires a valid work permit) and be available for mandatory training on June 7, 10, 11, and 12. Must be able to work Thursdays 3:30pm-10:30pm and one weekend day 10:30am-5:30pm, with a minimum of 7.5 hours on weekends.
