Head of Digital Transformation and CTO role at Kern Community College District, reporting to the Chancellor, responsible for developing and overseeing the district's technology strategy, digital transformation initiatives, and IT operations supporting the institution's strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities: Serve as Chief Technology Officer overseeing the District Master Plan and technology infrastructure; develop and implement district technology plans aligned with the Educational Master Plan; maintain strategic relationships with Chancellor, executive leadership, faculty, staff, and students; coordinate academic computing solutions and third-party ERP/SIS integrations.
Skills & Tools: Demonstrated expertise in higher education technology strategy, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, student information systems (SIS), and SaaS platforms (Ellucian preferred); strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities; proficiency in change management and digital transformation initiatives.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) in technology, information systems, business, or related field; minimum 5-7 years of progressive technology leadership experience in higher education, with proven experience managing IT operations, strategic planning, and transformation initiatives in multi-campus environments.
Location: In-Person - Bakersfield, CA
Compensation: $180K–$280K/yr (estimated)

*LOCATION - will be ONSITE at Kern Community College District in Bakersfield, California.

*TYPE - F/T Salaried +yearly bonus (will be employee of Ellucian)

Ellucian is seeking to hire a Head of Digital Transformation and CTO that will work at Kern Community College District. As the Head of Digital Transformation/CTO, you will be a trusted advisor to the Chancellor on the advancement of an innovative technology strategy, adoption, delivery and support services that impact the college. You will lead both strategic and tactical activities and campus communications to build consensus around the value of collaboration in a public higher education institution as a member of the CCC community and engaging with other CTOs in California, while ensuring the alignment of Ellucian strategy, processes, and resources to drive the institution’s strategic plan. The incumbent must have the ability to challenge conventional thinking with new ideas, approaches, and solutions through personal influence to promote transformation. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, organization, prioritization, excellent interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to garner respect and confidence of colleagues through listening, learning, and forging working relationships and synergies across the college

Where you will make an impact

  • Maintain an exceptionally high level of professionalism, responsiveness, and ongoing proactive collaboration with Chancellor and other Executive Leadership Team Members.
  • Serve as the Chief Technology Officer for the District with responsibility of developing and overseeing the District Master Plan.
  • Coordinate and guide in the development and implementation of the District technology plan in support of the Educational Master Plan.
  • Develop and sustain positive relationships with the institution’s community, faculty, staff and students.
  • Establish and direct the strategic and tactical goals, policies, and procedures in the best interest of the institution. 
  • Communicate strategic priorities and implementation plans to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive technology transformation and change within the institution, ensuring the campus is informed, consulted and enabled along the way.
  • Implement a modern technology governance process.
  • Communicate organizational change initiatives to include data governance and quality standards, process improvements, administrative stewardship, project critical paths and status updates.
  • Assess, anticipate, and manage technology projects and recommend appropriate action and resources. Especially as it relates to California State reporting.
  • Help translate goals into executable tactics through identifying responsible parties, needed resources, deadlines, and assessments; and overall executive level presentations up to and inclusive of board of trustees.
  • Perform other duties as delegated by Executive Leadership on campus.
  • Serve as an industry and customer expert back into the broader Ellucian departments/divisions.

 

What will you bring

  • 10+ years of experience in the Information Technology field or equivalent combination of education and experience leading IT strategic initiatives in a college or university environment.
  • Prior experience serving on campus executive leadership teams including the Chancellor.  
  • The successful candidate must have broad direct and relevant knowledge of higher education with the ability to be sensitive and tactful, with high emotional intelligence.  
  • Current knowledge in use and trends of technology in higher education.
  • Good understanding of Ellucian administrative/academic computing solutions, Ellucian SaaS preferred, and other third-party systems/solutions connected to the ERP/SIS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
