Role Snapshot

Chief Technical Officer reporting to CEO responsible for driving technical excellence and innovation across Moodle's global operations. This newly created role offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of technology strategy for the world's leading learning management platform.

Key Responsibilities: Ensure resilience, security, and scalability of technical infrastructure while guiding data and cybersecurity strategies. Lead and develop globally distributed teams across InfoSec, ICT DevOps, and DataOps functions, and participate in senior leadership strategic planning.
Skills & Tools: Extensive senior technology leadership experience with proven track record managing distributed teams; deep knowledge of cybersecurity, data management, cloud computing, and infrastructure. Advanced people leadership, strategic communication skills, and understanding of open-source technologies and corporate technology environments.
Qualifications: Demonstrated success in senior leadership roles within technology organizations, preferably in open-source environments. Experience translating strategic plans into technology roadmaps with evidence of building and inspiring high-performance teams globally.
Compensation: $200K–$350K/yr (estimated)

This role can be based anywhere in Europe.

What the role looks like

As a highly experienced technical leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the resilience, security and scalability of our business’s technical ecosystem, fostering innovation and aligning technical initiatives with Moodle’s goals
  • Guiding the future direction of our data and cybersecurity strategies
  • Attracting, developing and leading a high performance team 
  • Overseeing the operations of our InfoSec, ICT DevOps and DataOps teams globally
  • Participating as a member of our senior leadership team, providing input into and supporting achievement of company goals and strategic objectives.

We'd love to meet you

Especially if you can talk to us about your:

  • Extensive experience in senior leadership roles within technology organisations, preferably in an open-source environment, with a proven track record of success in managing globally distributed teams
  • Understanding of, and appreciation for, open source technologies and their usage in corporate environments
  • Technical experience in cybersecurity, data management, cloud computing, virtualisation and hosting infrastructure
  • Experience in translating strategic plans into technology strategy and roadmaps
  • Advanced people leadership experience and communication skills, with the ability to develop and inspire high performance, and promote a strong workplace culture 
  • An understanding of Moodle and the Moodle ecosystem would be a bonus!
