Job Description

The Brody School of Medicine (BSOM) Eastern Area Health Education Center (Eastern AHEC) department at East Carolina University is seeking a (12-month, AT WILL) Director of Information Technology and Services, Eastern AHEC. The Director of Information Technology and Services, Eastern AHEC, is responsible for leading all technology operations for Eastern AHEC, including infrastructure, security, applications, and management of 4 technical staff. This role provides strategic and technical leadership, ensuring systems and services are reliable, secure, and aligned with organizational goals. The Director works closely with Eastern AHEC senior leadership across the organization and serves as the voice of IT for Eastern AHEC when interacting with the NC AHEC Program Office. Key responsibilities include Leadership, Planning, and Management; Application & Data Management; Solution Development & Support, and Infrastructure & Security.
Our operating environment consists mostly of on-prem services based primarily on Windows Server, with some virtualization and Linux elements working toward further transition of certain services to the cloud. Additionally, we have services hosted in partnership with ECU and utilize proprietary systems from NC AHEC. Our technology stack includes SQL Server and MySQL databases, proprietary web apps on ColdFusion, and PowerShell for automation tasks. The Job Duties Include:

Application & Data Management (approx 35%):
  • Administer NC AHEC applications (CRM, LMS, registration, reporting).
  • Ensure data integrity, quality assurance, and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create and implement systems and processes to manage data transfer between disparate systems.
  • Support application enhancements and provide staff training.
Solution Development & Support (approx 35%):
  • Design and maintain web-based applications and databases.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop technology solutions to business challenges.
  • Provide technical guidance and end-user support.
Leadership, Planning, and Management (approx 20%):
  • Direct IT strategy, planning, and budgeting for all aspects of Eastern AHEC.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for NC AHEC technology initiatives and statewide systems.
  • Lead IT projects from planning through implementation.
  • Coordinate resources, timelines, and vendor relationships.
  • Manage the IT staff of four.
Infrastructure & Security Oversight (approx 10%):
  • Oversee and ensure stable and secure personal computing environments for a staff of 50.
  • Oversee technical management of classroom spaces, including audio-visual support
  • Oversee and ensure stable and secure network environments – servers, networks, virtualization, and core systems.
  • Oversee and ensure appropriate security controls, backups, disaster recovery, and end-user training around security issues.
