Role Snapshot
Junior Designer at Macmillan Children's Publishing Group creating innovative book designs for young readers' titles including young adult, middle grade, and graphic novels. The role supports the 1-color team in producing engaging cover and interior designs that appeal to diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities: Design and produce layouts for book covers and interiors, create mechanicals/effects plates, and manage routing of materials following department procedures. Collaborate with illustrators and editorial teams, research visual resources, and maintain project schedules while handling correspondence and responding to departmental queries.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Google Suite, expert knowledge of color theory and design fundamentals, and strong typography skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to collaborate and compromise with colleagues, and demonstrated passion for the book publishing industry.
Qualifications: 1-3 years of bookmaking or book design experience required. Bachelor's or master's degree in graphic design or related field, or equivalent professional work experience.
