About the Team
The Editorial Team is part of College Board’s Assessment Design and Development (AD&D) department. We are a close-knit team committed to producing SAT Suite test questions and related materials that are error free, consistent in style, and reflect overall editorial requirements. We also edit materials and ensure quality control for other College Board programs, such as AP and ACCUPLACER. We pride ourselves on our editorial expertise and our emphasis on the importance of team collaboration to produce work of the highest quality. We work closely with Math and Reading and Writing subject matter expertsin our department andother teams across College Board to publish tests and related materials in a variety of platforms, both digital and print.
About the Opportunity
AsSenior Director, Test Editing,you lead the editorial functions for College Board’sSAT Suite of assessments and support publicationsto ensure content meets overall consistency and integrity requirements and followsappropriate style guidelines.You lead editorial process innovations and play a crucial role in shaping how the teamleveragesemerging technologies, including generative AI, to support editorial work while maintaining the high standards of the SAT Suite and other College Board assessments.You work with subject matter expertsto ensure test materials are consistent and error free. You are an expert on all editorial matters and work with other teams in the department and across College Boardto successfully integrate assessments and assessment-related materials into delivery platforms for both digital and print.You are fully accountable for the editorial quality and accuracy of all reviewed publications.You manage, train, and mentor a team of five test editors.
In this role, you will:
Ensure error-free test content and support publications for the SAT Suite and other programs [25%]
- Conceptualize and direct implementation ofall editorial tasks associated with assessment programs
- Serve as chief editorial expertfor the SAT Suite and other programs
- Serve as an expert in the editorial field as trends in language/usage and best practices evolve in order to best inform the team’s work.
- Maintain our in-house assessment style guide to ensure it meets the needs of both Editorial and Content teams; create and keep up-to-date all process documentation related to the work
- Serve as senior-level editorial reviewer to assure quality standards are met upon delivery.
- Serve as primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on matters of SAT Suite and ACCUPLACER editorial style
Lead process innovation to gain efficiencies in the end-to-end test development and review process [25%]
- Collaborate with departmentand content team leadership to set the strategy for usingnew technologies to support editorial reviews and to lead and manage change
- Direct the editorial team in conductingevidence-based experimentation aligned with SAT Suite operational priorities to leveragenew technologies in the editorial review process
- Partner with our internal innovation studio and technical teams to evaluate new tools and optimize for editorial-specific needs, including integrating new tools into the item development workflow
- Set and measure adoption, efficiency, and quality metrics to track the impact of innovation efforts
- Provide guidance and support to editorial team members adapting to new tools and processes
- Develop and document best practices for integrating new tools into the editorial review process for test content and support materials
Manage Editorialworkflow[25%]
- Leadplanning and implementation for all editorial tasks
- Establish timelines and coordinate program components with other departments, divisions, and/or consultants, including approving schedules and effectively managing competing priorities
- Monitor workflow, prioritize projects, and adhere to deadlines established among editors, content, and project managers
- Make informed judgment calls on content and style issues independently to bring publications to deadline
- Ensure editorial requests from the teams we serve sync seamlesslywith the Editorial team’s workflow assignments
Lead an effective and engaged team [25%]
- Manage a talented team of editors with specialization in educational assessment
- Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture that upholds high standards, encourages innovation, supports staff development, and prioritizes stakeholder needs.
- Model and foster a culture of continuous improvement
- Work with department leadership and team leads to develop staffing allocations and budget estimates for new projects
About you
You have:
- Sevenor more years of professional experience in copyediting, including managing an editorial team; experience editing assessments and assessment-related materials preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or related field (master’s degree preferred)
- Specialized, demonstrated proofreading and editing ability and knowledge of general publishing and publications standards and practices
- Experience designing new processes and enabling successful adoption
- Ability to bridge technical and non-technical conversations; translating user needs into technical requirements and technical concepts into strategies and practices
- Natural curiosity about technology and its applications in education
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive strategic initiatives and achieve organizational goals.
- A relationship-building approach motivated by a strong, user-centric orientation
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and other professional style guides and demonstrated ability to apply various styles appropriately
- Thorough knowledge of marking up Adobe PDFs and strong familiarity with Microsoft Office products
- Experience editing and working in a variety of content management systems and technical platforms
- Excellent interpersonal skills

You must have:
- The ability to travel 1-3 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business

About Our Process
