Job Description

Position Overview

KIPP NYC has a bold organizational vision that requires disciplined project management, strong operational leadership, and the ability to create clarity, alignment, and momentum across competing priorities. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Senior Director, Project Management and Strategy Operations (PMSO) plays a dual role in support of these objectives: leading a critical body of evergreen work (60%) and operating within an organization-wide project management office function (40%)

Evergreen work: The PMSO is responsible for designing and stewarding the execution practices that connect KIPP NYC’s Strategic Priorities to the organization’s day-to-day work. This leader helps translate organization-wide priorities and initiatives into coordinated workstreams; strengthen cross-functional planning and accountability; and build the operational infrastructure that allows executive leaders to make informed decisions in real time.

The PMSO manages one direct report, the Director of Special Projects & Internal Communications. This is a full-time position, with a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum of three in-person days per week. Based on project deadlines, the PMSO may be required to work in-person on additional days. The role may also include travel to KIPP NYC campuses across the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. The cadence and frequency of school visits will be determined by your leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Execution

The PMSO is responsible for strengthening the structures, planning rhythms, and execution practices that keep long-term organizational initiatives connected to the arc of the year. Specifically,

  • Steward the organization’s strategic execution rhythms, supporting senior leaders in translating organizational priorities into coordinated, actionable work.
  • Steward the planning frameworks, project management practices, and accountability structures that allow large-scale initiatives to move forward with clarity, coordination, and transparency.

Strategic Insights

The PMSO is responsible for ensuring the organization has a clear and actionable view of progress against its highest strategic priorities. Specifically,

  • Build and steward the organization’s strategic progress monitoring infrastructure in partnership with the Data Team and senior leaders.
  • Shape and steward dynamic reporting tools and dashboards that provide strategic insights to executive leadership.
  • Bring a sophisticated lens to the interpretation of cross-functional metrics and indicators, thereby strengthening organizational coherence around shared goals and outcomes.

Leadership & Team Effectiveness

As a founding member of the EO, the PMSO will play a significant role in shaping how the team operates, collaborates, and supports the organization. Specifically,

  • Create the structures and workflows that enable the DSPIC to operate with clarity, ownership, and increasing autonomy.
  • Coach and develop the DSPIC, providing clear direction, consistent feedback, and the support they need to perform at a high level and grow and advance.
  • Guide and oversee internal communication efforts in partnership with the DSPIC and a team of 25+ departmental and school communication leads.
