The Operations Manager ensures effective school operations at KIPP Academy Boston Charter School, supporting students, families, and staff through budgeting, organization, and logistics. This role manages day-to-day operations while leading strategic projects that enhance the school community.

Key Responsibilities: Manages the nutrition team, school-wide logistics (testing, transportation, field trips, daily systems), budget support, and personnel management including one-on-ones and performance reviews. Handles strategic projects from conception to completion and serves as second-in-command to the Director of School Operations.
Skills & Tools: Strong project management, personnel/team leadership, budget and financial tracking, organizational systems management, and stakeholder communication. Must demonstrate problem-solving ability, reliability, and commitment to creating a positive school culture.
Qualifications: Experience in school operations, nonprofit management, or similar administrative leadership role required. Knowledge of K-8 school systems, budget management, and ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal initial direction preferred.
Location: In-Person - Boston, MA
Compensation: $55K–$75K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

The Operations Manager at KIPP Academy Boston Charter School ensures that the school operations effectively serve and support students, families, and school staff. Reporting to the Director of School Operations (DSO), the Operations Manager works closely with the Operations Team to support the budgeting, organization, and logistics of the school community. In doing so, the Operations Manager helps create a professional and authentic environment that allows for a culture of joy, excellence, care, and community where educators can make long-term transformative outcomes for students.

This role requires consistent and reliable demonstration of the following essential job functions and key responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Projects 

  • Manage year-long and short term strategic projects around the school

  • Engage in, and manage projects from beginning to end with little initial direction

  • Manage up when needed and get the information needed to accomplish objectives

  • When something is wrong, fix it. When something could be better, refine it

 

Personnel Management

  • Manage the staff and day to day of our Nutrition Team

  • Lead weekly one-on-one meetings with all direct reports

  • Develop professional development plan for all direct reports

  • Manage the performance manage process for all direct reports

 

School Wide Logistics Management

  • Manage all testing and assessments K-8; including MCAS

  • Manage transportation for all students; working closely with BPS transportation and other private vendors as needed for McKinney Vento transportation

  • Support the DSO in managing the school-wide calendar for events K-8

  • Support the DSO in managing field trips K-8

  • Support school wide systems such as arrival, lunch + recess, dismissal, and late pick up on a daily basis

  • Manage additional school wide systems, such as supply ordering and space reservations

 

Budget

  • Support DSOs in management of the school-wide budget

  • Support when necessary the inputting all receipts for the school credit cards

  • Understands system coding process

 

Nutrition

  • Ensure all certifications and permits are up-to-date annually

  • Track daily consumption of all meals along with the Nutrition team

  • Order all meals for students in accordance with compliance standards and student allergies

  • Complete monthly reimbursement and annual compliance reviews

  • Obtain + maintain ServSafe certification

  • Support with cafeteria coverage as needed

 

Operations Team Support

  • Support the DSO with all matters on campus

  • Attend some DSO trainings

  • Serve as a second in command for DSO responsibilities when necessary

  • Support the DSO in meeting school-wide operations goals

  • Support and cover the front desk as needed

  • Other duties as assigned by the School Leader or DSO

  • Physical mobility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead

  • Physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 20 pounds of materials or supplies and to physically restrain a student to keep from harming themself and/or others in an emergency situation

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, there will occasionally be other duties as assigned that staff will engage in to help promote a positive and safe learning environment and culture.
