Summary

Session Lead for Udacity's Big Data and Hadoop Nanodegree program, providing technical instruction and mentorship to learners through virtual weekly sessions and asynchronous support. This part-time, external contractor role bridges industry expertise with educational delivery in a remote, flexible format.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct weekly virtual Connect sessions with students covering group work, activities, and lectures; respond to technical questions, track student progress, and maintain attendance records. Coordinate between students and the Udacity team, communicate via Slack, create session agendas, and provide ongoing check-ins on learner advancement.
Skills & Tools: Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, Big Data technologies (Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce), and data streaming concepts; strong teaching ability, public speaking, and interpersonal skills with a student-centric mindset. Demonstrated experience explaining technical concepts, proactive problem-solving, and ability to foster collaborative group dynamics.
Qualifications: 2+ years of professional experience with Python, SQL, relational/non-relational databases, Big Data, Hadoop, and data streaming technologies. Fluent English (written and spoken), teaching experience preferred, Machine Learning Nanodegree graduate status a plus, with flexible availability for part-time contractor role.
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India (Remote/Work-from-home)
Compensation: Estimated: ₹35,000 – ₹65,000 per month ($420–$780 USD monthly) based on part-time external contractor role, Udacity's flexible position structure, India's tech market rates, and required expertise level.

Job Description

Position Overview:

Session Leads are industry professionals who provide world-class technical support to our learners in their Nanodegree journey. All our session leads are handpicked through a rigorous selection process so that we can truly be #studentfirst. 


As a Session Lead/Instructor, you will be meeting virtually on a weekly basis with your students for group work, activities and short lectures. During the week, students are expected to study an estimated 10 hours on their Nanodegree programs on their own, and you will be expected to respond to their technical questions and check-in with them to make sure they are making progress.


Required skills/qualifications:

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken
  • 2+ years of working experience related to the below skillsets.
  • Python - intermediate skills
  • SQL - intermediate skills
  • Relational vs Non-relational databases. 
  • Big Data & Hadoop
  • HDFS, MapReduce. 
  • Data Streaming
  • Stream vs batch processing
  • Basic understanding of Data Lakes, Data Warehouses
  • Apache Kafka
  • Graduate from Machine learning Nanodegree Program is an added plus
  • Experience teaching technical concepts and public speaking
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to lead a group of students
  • Students-oriented mindset and focus on understanding their problems
  • Innovative approach and proactivity with students that need help
  • Positive character, trusted by the students, creating emotional ties in the group
  • Existing tech network and experience in technical conversations & discussions
  • Flexibility at their current job to take this challenge as a part-time, external contractor

Responsibilities:

  • Managing weekly Connect sessions with students according to Udacity guidelines
  • Creating the Udacity Connect session agenda & notes
  • Coordinating between the students and the Udacity Connect team
  • Reporting to Udacity the weekly overall attendance status of students & observations about each session
  • Being present at every Connect session over Zoom, helping students introduce themselves, organizing students in groups and keeping track of time
  • Explaining concepts of the Nanodegree program to your group of students when needed
  • Solving questions raised by students during the Connect session
  • Reporting student's attendance and progress to the Mentor's dashboard
  • Communicating with students on Slack
  • Weekly check-in with all students on their progress
