Part-time math instructor position at Art of Problem Solving Academy teaching high school contest math (AMC 10/12 preparation) to advanced students in small classes. This role focuses on inspiring young mathematicians and helping them excel in prestigious math competitions.

Key Responsibilities: Teach company-created curriculum to small classes (up to 16 students) in engaging, student-led learning environments, manage classroom dynamics, grade assessments and provide feedback, and build relationships with students and families. Classes meet once weekly for 1 hour 45 minutes during after-school or weekend hours.
Skills & Tools: Strong content knowledge in mathematics with expertise in contest math strategies; excellent classroom management and communication skills; ability to engage advanced students and foster critical thinking and a love for learning.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor's degree in STEM or educational field strongly preferred. Teaching or tutoring experience required; K-12 classroom teaching experience preferred. Formal teaching credential is not required.

Compensation: $36/hr

The Part-Time Instructor will:

  • Teach Engaging Curriculum: Use company-created curriculum and materials designed for advanced students to lead small classes in math.
  • Engage Students: Actively involve students in each class or student-led learning.
  • Classroom Management: Expertly manage up to 16 students.
  • Grade & Provide Feedback: Provide feedback on tests.
  • Build Relationships: Connect with students and families to make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
  • Inspire Learning: Encourage a love for learning and critical thinking in math.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related or educational field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge in math.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring students.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.

Not Required:

  • A formal teaching credential is not required for this position.

Schedule:

  • AoPS Academy is an on-site afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
  • This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
  • Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Our team is currently seeking candidates to fill the following classes for AMC 10/12 Comprehensive Training:

AoPS has prepared students for the most prestigious high school competitions since 1993. Since 2015, AoPS students have won 53 medals at the International Math Olympiad. Even more have excelled at the USA(J)MO, AIME, and other prestigious math contests. In this course, students study strategies crucial for success on the AMC 10 and 12, AIME, the HMMT, and other major high school contests.

Campus Location:

  • This is an in-person position at our Millburn location.
  • Candidates must be located in Millburn/Short Hills, NJ or the greater area and must be able to commute to our campus.
