Teach engaging language arts curriculum to advanced students in small classes at AoPS Academy, an afterschool enrichment program. Inspire critical thinking and foster a love of learning in K-12 students.

Key Responsibilities: Lead small classes (up to 16 students) using company-created curriculum, actively engage students in learning, manage classroom dynamics, grade assessments, and build relationships with students and families.
Skills & Tools: Strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar; excellent classroom management and communication skills; ability to inspire student engagement and foster critical thinking.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (strongly preferred in education or humanities field); teaching or tutoring experience required; K-12 classroom experience preferred. Formal teaching credential not required.
Location: In-Person - Princeton, NJ
Compensation: $34/hr

Job Description

Are you passionate about language arts? Do you love inspiring young minds in an engaging, collaborative classroom setting? We have the perfect opportunity for you! We are currently looking for candidates with a wide range of availability to substitute our classes in the afternoons/evenings Monday-Friday, as well as our classes on Saturday and Sunday. We are continually opening new classes, so there will be an opportunity to be assigned to a class once one becomes available.

What You'll Do:

  • Teach Engaging Curriculum: Use company-created curriculum and materials designed for advanced students to lead small classes in language arts.
  • Engage Students: Actively involve students in each class for student-led learning.
  • Classroom Management: Expertly manage up to 16 students.
  • Grade & Provide Feedback: Provide feedback on tests.
  • Build Relationships: Connect with students and families to make a lasting impact on their educational journey.
  • Inspire Learning: Encourage a love for learning and critical thinking in language arts.

Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or a humanities field is strongly preferred.
  • Strong content knowledge in reading, writing, and/or grammar.
  • Experience teaching or tutoring students.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred.

Not Required:

  • A formal teaching credential is not required for this position.

Schedule:

  • AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends. Candidates must be available to teach during weekday after-school hours (as early as 4pm) and/or on weekends.
  • We are currently looking for someone who can specifically sub for week day classes at 4:30pm.
  • This position requires a minimum initial commitment of about 3 hours per week for each assigned class.
  • Each course meets once per week for 1 hour 45 minutes.
