Summary
The Exploratorium seeks a PhD-level Staff Scientist Educator to develop and implement transformative, inquiry-based professional development experiences for preK-12 science teachers. This role combines scientific expertise with educational leadership to improve science teaching and learning across the Bay Area and beyond.
Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver teacher professional development workshops, create hands-on inquiry-based science activities and learning experiences, teach and present science to diverse audiences including teachers and the public, and provide scientific guidance to support the Teaching & Learning team's initiatives. Additional responsibilities include consulting on exhibit design, training floor staff, publishing successful strategies, and representing the Exploratorium's commitment to science education advocacy.
Skills & Tools: Strong communication and presentation abilities with expertise in designing effective learning activities; ability to center equity and liberatory practices in program design and facilitation; doctoral-level scientific knowledge with pedagogical expertise to support transformative teaching and learning.
Qualifications: PhD in a physical science field (physics, chemistry, or related); minimum five years of teaching experience in preK-12 settings. Preferred qualifications include grant development experience and a proven publication record in science or education.
