Role Snapshot

The Adaptive Services Specialist supports students and faculty at Gavilan College's Accessible Education Center by facilitating the use of adaptive technology for individuals with disabilities and providing essential services to ensure equitable access to education.

Key Responsibilities: Provides tutoring, identifies suitable adaptive technology, maintains equipment, trains students on assistive devices, recruits and evaluates student assistants, and offers direct services such as American Sign Language interpretation and mobility assistance. Works with faculty and IT to implement, troubleshoot, and maintain adaptive technology and network functions.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in adaptive/assistive technology, strong troubleshooting abilities, expertise with speech recognition and screen enlargement software, and excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration. Knowledge of disabilities and their specific needs, along with ability to train and support students on complex equipment.
Qualifications: Experience with assistive technology and knowledge of sensory, physical, and learning disabilities preferred. Prior tutoring or student support experience and familiarity with IT equipment maintenance and network functions beneficial.
Location: None
Compensation: $45K–$65K/yr
