Active Minds is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization changing the culture around mental health. Through our presence at more than 800 high school and college campuses, in corporate settings, and with a wide-reaching public audience, Active Minds is creating communities of support and saving lives. Founded in 2003 by Alison Malmon after the tragic suicide of her brother Brian, Active Minds is dedicated to supporting a new generation in ending the silence, helping to make mental health as highly valued as physical health. Through our many programs – including the emotionally gripping Send Silence Packing® traveling exhibit and our compelling Active Minds Speakers – we are changing culture and behaviors related to mental health across the country.

Our internships are geared towards current college students and recent college graduates. As a small nonprofit, Active Minds relies on the help of our interns tremendously. They work directly on important initiatives and projects and assist staff on a variety of administrative tasks. Interns have the opportunity to do substantive work, gain experience in the nonprofit sector, and help change the culture around mental health.

All Summer 2026 internships will be remote, with an anticipated start date of June 1st, 2026, and an anticipated end date of July 24th, 2026. We expect interns to work a minimum of 20 hours a week, set a consistent work schedule between 9:00am and 5:00pm EST Monday through Friday, and commit to staying on board for the entire semester.

Active Minds pays interns $18 per hour.

Web & Digital Content Intern

As part of the Marketing and Communications team, Web & Digital Content interns will learn how websites and digital content support a nonprofit’s mission. Because our mission is to mobilize youth and young adults to champion a new era of mental health, we deeply value our interns’ unique experiences, perspectives, creative ideas, and skills.

Web and Digital Content interns are technologically skilled and passionate about website design, and are eager to work in a collaborative, meaningful, and creative environment. They will focus on the technical implementation, user experience, and visual appeal of web content that supports different teams’ efforts to mobilize our network of 800 campuses, workplaces, and communities with Active Minds programs, all across the country.

The Web and Digital Content intern will directly contribute on a variety of projects driven by the organization’s strategic goals, which may include: triaging work requests for Active Minds' websites, designing web pages using a custom library of branded components, auditing pages for content or design improvements, troubleshooting bugs or technical issues, supporting ongoing work to develop custom website components, and working on special projects as assigned (depending on interest and experience). They will also have an opportunity to collaborate with members from across the entire organization and be supervised by the Manager, Web & Digital Content.

Web and Digital Content interns are important members of the team who support all types of projects — big and small — to continue to move our mission forward.

Qualifications

Experience using WordPress, a content management system (CMS), ideally with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) as a custom page builder, or similar advanced toolsets.
Experienced with HTML and CSS, and their use in modern web design.
Strong written and communications skills, including regular use of email, Slack, and reviewing technical documentation.
Flexible team player with an openness and willingness to learn
Self-starter with a positive attitude who enjoys working proactively and thinking creatively.
Accustomed to working on multiple projects with different deadlines simultaneously.
Stickler for details, quality, and security.
Experience with front-end development frameworks like Twig, Node.js, Tailwind CSS, or React is a plus.
Experience with programming languages like PHP and JavaScript is a plus.
Experience with Git/Github and CLI tools is a plus.
Experience using Figma or the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator and Photoshop) is a plus.

Eligibility Requirements:

All applicants must be currently enrolled in, or have previously attended, a U.S. based college or university
All applicants must be able to complete a work authorization (I-9) during onboarding
All applicants must be able to complete the entirety of the internship program in the listed dates in the job description
