Key Responsibilities: Conduct onsite safety audits, review and draft safety procedures aligned with local regulations, interview contractors and site personnel, identify compliance gaps, and prepare executive reports with regulatory citations and actionable recommendations.
Skills & Tools: Deep expertise in country-specific occupational health and safety legislation, strong audit and procedure-drafting experience, excellent communication and interviewing abilities, proficiency with mobile apps (iOS/Android) and Microsoft Office tools, ability to synthesize findings into clear executive reports.
Qualifications: Demonstrated experience conducting workplace safety audits and updating safety procedures across high-risk industries; preferred credentials include NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, or equivalent national certification (e.g., Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor). Experience with multinational organizations and regulatory inspections is advantageous.
Location: London
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is £40,000 – £65,000/year (or equivalent hourly rate of £25–£40/hour for freelance engagement) based on title, seniority, location, and experience.

🌍 Overview 

We are seeking highly qualified in-country Safety Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to support our client’s safety compliance initiatives. In this pivotal freelance role, you will ensure operational activities and documentation align with national occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, INRS, HSE, DGUV, etc. depending on country). This opportunity is ideal for a regulatory safety professional passionate about analyzing real-world practices, identifying compliance gaps, and recommending clear, actionable improvements.


Contract Details: 

Engagement Type: Freelance / Contract (Hourly, 1099 or C2C)

Location: Remote (within UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and Egypt) — based in-country (specific address/location TBD); requires travel to client worksites

Hours: Variable, on-demand (no set weekly guarantee)

Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: Based on experience

Language Requirement: Fluent in English and local language

🛠️ Responsibilities

  • Review and edit safety procedures: Analyze current safety policies and procedures to confirm alignment with local legal requirements; update or draft new procedures as needed.
  • Onsite safety audits: Conduct in-person visits to worksites throughout your country (locations provided in advance), observe work in progress, and perform thorough audit activities.
  • Interview contractors and teams: Meet with site personnel and contractors to validate procedural effectiveness and uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify regulatory gaps: Compare real-life practices and documentation to legal requirements; cite specific country regulations (OSHA equivalent) for any deficiencies.
  • Recommend improvements: Prepare clear, step-by-step recommendations—with reference to regulations—to close identified safety performance and compliance gaps.
  • Executive-level safety reporting: Draft succinct, comprehensive reports summarizing findings, regulatory references, and prioritized next steps suitable for senior leadership audiences.
  • Digital documentation: Capture audit notes, photos, and findings using mobile device applications, ensuring accurate and efficient field reporting; submit deliverables electronically.

✅ Requirements 

  • Deep, current expertise in your country’s occupational health and safety legislation and enforcement (e.g., country-specific OSHA or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace safety audits and/or drafting and updating safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with varied industries (such as construction, manufacturing, energy, utilities, or similar high-risk fields).
  • Strong interviewing and communication skills to interface with diverse contractor teams and management.
  • Advanced proficiency with mobile device apps (iOS/Android) for field data entry, plus Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Ability to synthesize detailed findings into clear, concise reports for executive review, with regulatory citations.
  • Flexible schedule to enable site visits and requirements as needed—hours will fluctuate month-to-month.
  • Ability to work independently, meeting tight deadlines and remote coordination requirements.

🔑 Preferred Qualifications

  • National certification or licensure in occupational health and safety (where applicable, e.g., NEBOSH, CSP, CMIOSH, Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit, OSH Diploma, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, Inspektor BHP etc.).
  • Experience managing compliance for multinational or global organizations.
  • Prior involvement in executive-level reporting or regulatory inspections.
