The Academic Multimedia Services Student Video Technician records, edits, and processes video content for classes and university events while maintaining the AMS office and Simple Studio. This role provides hands-on experience in video production within a university media services environment.

Key Responsibilities: Recording, editing, and processing video from classes, university events, and studio sessions; assisting AMS and AV team members with production work; organizing and maintaining video footage and equipment; coordinating with clients to meet their needs.
Skills & Tools: Strong proficiency in video recording and editing techniques, attention to detail, organization, customer service, and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products and professional HD camcorders is preferred, with ability to work independently and adapt to emerging technologies.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products and professional video/audio equipment experience is preferred. Must be an enrolled American University student, eager to learn video production skills, and demonstrate effective communication and multi-tasking abilities.

Job Description:

Summary: 

The AMS (Academic Multimedia Services) Student Video Technician is responsible for recording, editing, and processing video. Student Video Technicians work as a group to share and carry out responsibilities on a scheduled basis. Student Video Technicians also help maintain staff presence in the AMS office and Simple Studio within the University Library, coordinating with clients to meet their needs. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Recording, editing, and processing video from classes, university events, and Simple Studio.

  • Assisting other AMS and AV members with classroom and event production.

  • Organizing and maintaining footage on storage devices.

  • Organizing and maintaining AMS equipment and the Simple Studio.

  • Maintaining staff presence in the AMS office and Simple Studio.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 15 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $18.40 per hour.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.

  • Excellent customer service, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations to maintain quality control.

  • Eager to learn new video production skills.

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud products.

  • Experience with professional HD camcorders and other video/audio equipment.

  • Strong knowledge of video recording/editing techniques.
