Network Engineer I or II provides mission-critical enterprise network and security services across multiple University of Idaho campuses, with responsibilities ranging from support and troubleshooting (Level I) to leadership of technology selection, design, and implementation (Level II).

Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience; Level II positions require 3+ years of network engineering experience and demonstrated leadership in technology implementation.

Compensation: $75K–$120K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

Network Engineer I
This position provides mission critical, enterprise network and security services, including design, planning, procurement, provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and consulting, for multiple campuses across the state. They will engage with equipment vendors and service providers to address design questions and escalate support problems.

Duties may include:
  • Provide consultation and expert network support, resolve complex issues, implement changes and complex network configurations
  • Maintain detailed work logs for tracking requests and resolving hardware, software and service problems
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve incidents
  • Maintain and enhance support through continuous improvement activities and new technology implementation
  • Identify and respond to network issues, outages and events
  • Maintain network management and security tools
  • Provide training and support to the U of I community, communicate accepted practices and work within resource boundaries to develop solutions
  • Foster an atmosphere of collaborative problem solving, displaying a strong commitment to customer service
  • Other duties as assigned

Network Engineer II
This position leads the selection, design and implementation of new network and security technologies and services. They provide mission critical, enterprise network and security services, including design, planning, procurement, provisioning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and consulting, for multiple campuses across the state.

Duties may include:
  • Maintain and enhance network stability, security and efficiency through continuous improvement activities, implementation of new technologies, consultation and incident response
  • Provide expert network consultation, recommend solutions and collaborate on network additions and reconfigurations
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and manage the network, including incident handling and escalation to vendors and service providers when necessary
  • Design, customize and implement network upgrades and expansions while ensuring minimal disruption to network availability
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities
  • Provide expert network support by addressing inquiries, resolving complex issues, and implementing changes
  • Optimize client and program satisfaction through collaborative problem-solving, strong commitment to customer service and timely action to meet network and system needs
  • Other duties as assigned
