Job Description

About aiEDU

The AI Education Project (aiEDU.org) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2019, dedicated to creating equitable learning experiences that empower students with AI literacy. We believe that everyone—especially those likely to be disproportionately impacted by AI systems—should have access to the knowledge and skills they need to thrive as workers, creators, consumers, and citizens. Our mission is to make AI literacy a fundamental part of every student’s education.

About the role

aiEDU is looking for two experienced product managers to support aiEDU in the development of educator- and student-facing products. These are short-term (6 month), fractional independent contractor positions, with the potential for extension based on future needs. We expect that product managers in this role will leverage AI to significantly speed up the product development process, and will function as player-coaches, upskilling our own team in effective product development along the way.

Project 1: Supporting our CEO and External team to build out vibecoding.aiedu.org. We envision this as a platform where educators, students, and partners can learn by building with AI. Over time, we anticipate this platform incorporating additional community-building elements like shared projects, monthly competitions, work showcases and community learning.

Project 2: Supporting our Programs and Learning teams to revamp their educator-focused products, including building an updated Curriculum Management System to replace our current Curriculum Portal, and defining and building new, partner-facing products to augment our program facilitation.

The right person will not just manage the product process—they'll coach our internal teams through it, building PM capacity at aiEDU that outlasts the contract. You'll work closely with our teams to understand current workflows, define requirements, and shepherd us through vendor evaluation or build decisions. Along the way, you’ll upskill our team on AI-assisted product development, AI augmented workflows and the shared infrastructure required to take our work to the next level.

✅ Your Responsibilities

Lead the Product Discovery & Scoping Process

  • Define the product vision and roadmap in partnership with relevant aiEDU leaders and stakeholders
  • Define the problem space, surface constraints, and document current-state pain points
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, user testing and other research to guide product development and feature prioritization
  • Translate requirements into a phased roadmap with clear milestones
  • Partner with our VP of Operations to identify and address relevant security, safety, privacy and legal considerations.
  • Develop and maintain a product requirements document (PRD) or equivalent

Build & Refine

  • Build the product end-to-end across a 2-3 month window, coordinating across aiEDU stakeholders to maintain alignment. Ideally, you can get the product to 90% yourself, and then partner with a contracted engineer to ensure the product is ready for full deployment.
  • Define evaluation criteria and product analytics aligned with aiEDU's mission and operational needs; evaluate and refine product as needed.

Support aiEDU’s Internal Learning

  • Coach and upskill aiEDU’s own staff throughout the engagement, sharing best practices for product development and creating documentation, templates and frameworks that can be used for future product development.
  • Support our Operations team in advancing the aiEDU’s team internal AI readiness, advising as relevant on AI-assisted product development, AI augmented workflows and the shared infrastructure required to take our work to the next level.

🚀 About You

Required

  • 5+ years of product management experience, including experience leading 0→1. Experience turning ambiguous ideas into clear product requirements, prototypes, delivery plans, and launch decisions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong documentation habits.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills—you can lead a cross-functional process without formal authority.
  • Genuine interest in mentorship; you're comfortable explaining your process while doing it.

Preferred

  • Experience working in K-12 education, educator professional learning, curriculum or student-facing technology, including addressing privacy, safety and equity issues.
