Role Snapshot

An Intervention Specialist supports K-12 students with diverse learning needs by implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) and evidence-based instructional strategies in general and special education settings. The role advocates for inclusive practices and ensures students receive appropriate accommodations and support.

Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with Ohio Academic Content Standards, co-plan and co-teach with general education teachers, implement behavioral intervention plans and positive behavior supports, participate in IEP and MTSS meetings, and maintain progress documentation. Provide social-emotional learning support, use data-driven decision-making to adjust strategies, and serve as a liaison between students, families, teachers, and service providers.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in IEP implementation, evidence-based instructional strategies, behavioral intervention, de-escalation and crisis management, and data analysis. Strong collaboration, communication, and advocacy skills with ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusive education practices.
Qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor's degree in special education, education, or related field and state certification or licensure as a special education teacher or intervention specialist. Familiarity with Ohio Academic Content Standards and special education law preferred; experience working with students with disabilities required.

Compensation: $32Kโ€“$45K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

Inclusion Intervention Specialists in K-12 schools in Ohio play a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning needs.  Summary of responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Implement individualized education programs (IEPs) 

  • Design and execute individualized instructional strategies aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards to address the unique needs of special education students

  • Provide direct intervention for students with disabilities in general and special education settings

  • Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet students' unique learning needs

  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support academic growth

  • Work closely with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons

  • Serve as a liaison between students, teachers, families, and related service providers

  • Advocate for inclusive practices and ensure students receive appropriate accommodations.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including IEP and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings

  • Implement behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) and positive behavior supports.

  • Provide social-emotional learning (SEL) support to students with disabilities

  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies 

  • Assess students' academic and behavioral progress using formal and informal assessments

  • Maintain documentation and progress reports for IEPs 

  • Adjust instructional strategies based on data-driven decision-making

  • Adhere to the Operating Standards for Ohioโ€™s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities, ensuring proper placement, instruction, and evaluation of students with disabilities

  • Ensure adherence to federal and state special education laws

  • Ensure adherence to board policies and district procedures.

  • Stay updated on best practices in inclusive education through ongoing training

  • Assist in training general education staff on inclusion strategies

  • Actively involve parents and colleagues as learning partners, fostering a collaborative approach to student development
