Envision seeks Board of Directors at Envision Education: executives who serve as strategic advisors and advocates, helpingto shape the future direction of Envision Education. 

About Envision Education 

Envision Education focuses on transforming student lives, especially first-generation college students, by preparing them for success in college, career, and life. Their approach includes a unique Portfolio Defense model that emphasizes academic, leadership, and personal growth skills. Envision operates four schools in the Bay Area, and collaborates with educators through Envision Learning Partners to promote innovative, college-going cultures nationwide. The organization is in strong financial standing, with the resources necessary to sustain its current operations, invest in innovative educational models, and expand its impact in fostering equitable learning opportunities for students nationwide. 

The Mission of Envision Education for over 20 years has been to transform the lives of students - especially those who will be the first in their family to attend college - by preparing them for success in college, career, and life. 

Envision Education is made up of three key components to meet our mission: 

I. Envision Learning Partners: Shaping Future-Ready Learning 

Our consulting division, Envision Learning Partners, collaborates with school networks and organizations nationally and globally to redefine assessments. We focus on creating performance-based assessments that move beyond traditional tests, providing students with a deeper, more relevant learning experience aligned with the skills valued by top-performing companies worldwide. 

II. Advancing Equity Through Research 

We conduct research that drives equitable change across K-12 and higher education, offering a comprehensive view into diverse student experiences. Our studies reveal how to design high-quality learning experiences that truly meet the needs of all students. 

III. Operating Schools that Transform Lives 

With four Bay Area schools, we empower students through a transformative model that integrates project-based learning, student-led conferences, and portfolio assessments. We focus on building lifelong learners who tackle society’s greatest challenges, paving the way for future generations to thrive in sustainable, inclusive communities. 


Position Overview 

The Board of Directors at Envision Education are executives who serve as strategic advisors and advocates, helpingto shape the future direction of Envision Education. These members provide high-level guidance, support, andthought leadership to ensure Envision Education continues to grow in influence and effectiveness. This is anunpaid role requiring approximately 5 hours of commitment monthly, which includes attending quarterly

meetings, participating in major Education Education initiatives, and meeting annual sponsorship requirements. Envision Education has 6 open board seats. 


Key Responsibilities 

1. Commitment to Stakeholders and Institutional Health: Ensure decisions are made with the long-term sustainability and growth of Envision Education in mind. 


2. Mission Stewardship: Champion the mission of Envision Schools and ensure the effective implementation of its charters. 


3. Sub-Committee Involvement: Serve on at least one sub-committee, determined annually (e.g., Audit, Executive, Capital Campaign, Fundraising, etc.). Attend regular sub-committee meetings, requiring a commitment of at least 1 hour per month. 


4. Fiscal Oversight: Approve and monitor the school budget, fiscal reports, and fiscal practices of the Charter School. Review and approve facility arrangements and plans. Receive and evaluate the independent annual financial audit. 


5. Policy and Leadership: Adopt and uphold board policies. Hire, evaluate, and provide guidance to the CEO. 


6. Strategic Planning: Actively participate in the development and oversight of the school’s long-term strategic plan. 


7. Community Stewardship: Represent and advocate for the interests of the broader community, ensuring Envision Schools best serve all members in alignment with its mission. Facilitate a channel for community concerns, aspirations, and feedback. 

Qualifications 

  • Experience with fundraising and cultivating partnerships 
  • Expertise in financial management; specifically bonds, real estate 
  • Prior participation on board committees, including audit, finance, and governance committees. 
  • Leadership experience in driving innovation 
  • Experience in scaling at a national level 
  • Executive management experience 
  • Direct charter school experience as a student or through parenting a middle/high school aged child 

Meeting & Tenure Requirements 

  • In addition to three (3) annual in-person board meetings in Oakland, CA, one (1) full-day annual retreat and one (1) annual gala in the spring, board members should expect to dedicate approximately 5-10 hours monthly for fundraising, committee work, and other duties. 
  • If out of town, travel to the five (5) board events listed above are required. 
  • Board members commit to a $50,000 annual give/get policy, which can be achieved through personal contributions or by actively raising funds in support of Envision’s mission. 
  • Board members commit to a 3-year term of service. An offering of an additional term is contingent upon board review and approval.
