This position is a full-time staff position for up to one year with the possibility of renewal. This position is a remote position throughout the year.
Occasional travel to the SCU campus may be needed for special situations. Travel costs will be covered by SCU.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities
- Work with faculty to develop course materials in Canvas LMS adhering to accepted instructional design principles.
- Perform quality assurance checks on completed courses
- Serve as a consultant to faculty on course design, development of course and program assessments, and assessment methods and tools to achieve student learning outcomes.
- Work with the ID team and other colleagues to create course development timelines, design and develop templates, and create lists of deliverables expected from faculty.
- Assist with the ongoing maintenance of existing courses from term to term, addressing the needs of individual faculty members, departments, Program Directors Deans, staff stakeholders, and others. Manage relationships with faculty members, departments, program directors, staff stakeholders, and others.
- Assist in overall operation of SCU’s online instructional technology infrastructure, including the LMS system, media content, assessment platforms, proctoring platforms, and course integrations with other technologies.
- Assist in a regular process of course review, updates, and enhancements to ensure ongoing relevance, pedagogical soundness, and accuracy. This process will be informed by stakeholder feedback, institutional initiatives, and changing educational needs.
- Assist and support faculty in the use of online course components and classroom technologies focused on achieving course goals, objectives, and learning outcomes
- Assist faculty in identifying, evaluating, developing, and implementing technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
- Assist the Online Education team with the development and delivery of group and one- on-one professional development activities for faculty, including trainings, workshops, courses, and presentations related to various instructional technology and design topics
- Training topics may include andrological best practices, course design, learning theory, effective use of instructional technology, online/distance learning strategies for student engagement, and accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with and support colleagues within the online education team, the SCU Office of Institutional and Academic Insights, SCU academic departments, and others.
- Collaborate with external vendors to support SCU’s mission
- Perform other related duties as required.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education And/Or Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field and 5 years of work experience as an Instructional Designer/Instructional Technologist in higher education settings
OR
A Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technology or related field and 3 years of work experience as an Instructional Designer/Instructional Technologist in higher education settings.
OR
A Doctoral degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Educational Technologies, Information Technology or a related field and 2 years Instructional Designer/Instructional Technologist experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Advanced knowledge and expertise in the use of Canvas LMS. HTML skills in Canvas course development required.
- Expert knowledge of Instructional Design and Delivery
- Extensive knowledge of online accessibility standards and experience adapting materials to meet those standards
- Understanding of Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium and similar online learning standards.
- Experience in online classroom teaching or workshop facilitation
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Ability to deal calmly with difficult users
- High flexibility and experience maintaining regular availability.
- Project management skills
Preferred Qualitifications And Skills
- Quality Matters Certification highly preferred.
- Video development, editing and production skills preferred.
