THE OPPORTUNITY
Scholastic’s Research & Validation Department collaborates with school districts to conduct inclusive, high-quality, well-designed, rigorous research evaluations (both in-house and with independent research firms) that shed light on whether and how our educational products and services improve student reading achievement and motivation. Scholastic believes strongly in a mixed methods approach to our research, providing meaningful and contextualized information and results for teachers and school leaders.
This role will support many of the critical functions within the Research & Validation Department. The position is responsible for recruiting partner sites for efficacy studies, connecting foundational research to products and practices, coordinating professional development, monitoring implementations, troubleshooting unexpected challenges, collecting data, writing-up findings or analysis, and communicating results with stakeholders. This role will also help identify and translate well-accepted reading research, neuroscience, pedagogy, and educational psychology into product offerings. To be successful, someone in this position must have impeccable project management and communication skills and be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with schools, teachers, administrative staff, and corporate staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compose, edit, and disseminate research briefs, summaries, and fact sheets that incorporate current research findings and highlight the impact of Scholastic solutions on student achievement.
- Recruit sites, support IRB reviews, develop and execute research project plans and timelines, coordinate training, and gather internal and external data for analysis.
- Plan and manage research projects and study progress by monitoring the implementation of participating research classrooms and schools, cultivating district and school-level relationships, and planning future initiatives.
- Write literature reviews and maintain knowledge of relevant literacy research, educational policies, best practices, and emerging trends related to Scholastics digital and print solutions.
- Support internal teams understanding and use of research to optimize product development, data collection/reporting, content development, professional learning, and RFP applications.
- Make presentations to the research, professional development, product management, and editorial teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of data management best-practices and student privacy guidelines.
- Understanding of research design and related education-focused legislation (ESSA tiers etc.) & policy.
- Understanding of educational research design and experience with educational research management methodologies.
- Exceptional writing, analytical, and listening skills.
- Strong ability to communicate the main points of complex analyses to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proactive and flexible in making decisions, identifying problems, and creating solutions.
- Impeccable follow-up, meticulous attention to detail, and orientation toward results.
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritize and organize workload for self.

- Experience in educational technology, educational publishing, and research is beneficial.
- Passionate commitment to helping all students learn to read, read to learn, and love to read.
Experience: At least 3-5 years of direct research experience, as well as demonstrated proficiency in project management; or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Work in schools (K-12) or teaching experience preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, public policy, or public administration required (Master’s degree+ preferred).
