Key Responsibilities: Partner with the Manager of Academic Design to define content requirements and create planning documentation such as learning plans, prototypes, and scope sequences. Collaborate with Portfolio Managers on product performance analysis, manage multiple cross-project documents, and apply pedagogical standards while identifying opportunities to enhance learner experiences.
Skills & Tools: Expertise in instructional design, learning objectives, and pedagogical standards combined with strong project management and cross-functional collaboration abilities. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with design templates and processes, and familiarity with latest pedagogical research and assessment demands.
Qualifications: A degree or professional certification in instructional design, education, curriculum development, or related field. Professional experience in instructional design, learning experience design, or educational content development is required.

Compensation: $55K–$75K/yr (estimated)

The Learning Experience Designer plays a crucial role in the Academic Design team within Cengage | National Geographic Learning (NGL) Global English Language Learning (ELL) group. You will assist in shaping the instructional design and content strategy for our products, working alongside the Director and Manager of Academic Design to identify how learning objectives will be delivered, practiced, and assessed.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Act as a learning design expert, partnering with the Manager of Academic Design to define content requirements, leading to essential planning documentation such as learning plans, prototypes, component charts, and scope and sequence.
  • Work collaboratively with Portfolio Managers to analyze past product performance and user behavior, providing insightful recommendations.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and quality by identifying opportunities to enhance learners' experiences through effective learning design.
  • Utilize established templates and processes to guide products from concept to implementation, ensuring content meets pedagogical standards.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive cross-project documents, such as Course Objective Hierarchy, to streamline design efforts.
  • Engage in collaborative problem-solving with colleagues, using strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and make informed decisions.
  • Communicate effectively, employing exceptional verbal and written skills for audience-centric analysis, persuasion, and documentation.
  • Stay informed about the latest pedagogical research and high-stakes assessment demands to guide your design work and team training.
  • Manage multiple projects efficiently within a dynamic, international remote-work setting.
  • Apply Cengage's quality learning standards to products and solutions, continuously seeking areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • A degree or professional certification in instructional design or learning design.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in developing ELL or ESL educational products.
  • A strong commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and file-sharing tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in education or linguistics.
  • Teaching experience in ELL or ESL.
  • Knowledge of international curriculum approaches and education initiatives (e.g., Saudi Vision 2030).
