The Family Literacy Facilitator promotes intergenerational literacy and parenting skills by working directly with low-income parents and children through home-based interventions. This role supports family engagement in learning activities that strengthen literacy outcomes across generations.

Key Responsibilities: Conduct home visits to teach parents and engage families in literacy and learning activities, implement assigned literacy and parenting lessons, and perform pre- and post-program assessments. Maintain documentation, communicate with supervisors, submit timely reports, and attend meetings while accommodating flexible scheduling around family needs.
Skills & Tools: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively with diverse, low-income populations; competence in program delivery, assessment administration, and documentation. Flexibility, organizational skills, and ability to function as a collaborative team member.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; some positions may prefer or require associate's or bachelor's degree in education, social services, or related field. Prior experience working with families, literacy instruction, or community outreach is typically preferred.

Job Description

The Family Literacy Facilitator will work directly with parents and children in promoting intergenerational literacy activities and parenting skills. Must work effectively with people from all backgrounds and situations. The majority of participants are low-income.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Conduct home visits
2. Teach assigned parents and engage parent and child in literacy and learning activities.
3. Implement assigned literacy and parenting lessons during home visits.
4. Communicate with supervisors.
5. Conduct pre- and post- family literacy assessments.
6. Maintain and keep current required documentation.
7. Ensure flexibility in schedule in work hours in order to accommodate the family’s schedule for visits.
8. Participate as an effective member of the Family Literacy Project team.
9. Submit reports in a timely manner.
10. Attend scheduled meetings and training.
11. Other duties as assigned.
