The Associate Director, Research Security Program provides strategic leadership and program management for the Office of Research Security and Export Control at Old Dominion University. This role ensures university-wide compliance with federal research security regulations, export controls, and foreign influence policies while serving as a senior advisor to institutional leadership.

Key Responsibilities: Monitor and implement federal legislation and regulations (NSPM-33, CHIPS and Science Act, export controls, CUI); manage complex compliance initiatives across the institution; coordinate with university leadership and external partners to align research security initiatives with federal requirements and sponsor policies.
Skills & Tools: Advanced knowledge of research security, export controls, and federal compliance frameworks; strategic program management and operational leadership; ability to advise senior university leadership on complex compliance matters; strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications: Advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience in research security, export controls, or federal compliance; demonstrated expertise in research security regulations and institutional policy development.

Job Description

The Associate Director, Research Security Program provides program management, operational, administrative, and strategic leadership for the Office of Research Security and Export Control. This program ensures university-wide compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations related to research security, foreign influence, and export controls. The Associate Director monitors federal legislation/regulations in these areas, including National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM โ€“ 33), CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, research security, international collaborations due diligence, controlled unclassified information, and export-controlled information as appropriate. The Associate Director works in close coordination with the Associate Vice President of Research Security and Export Control, University leadership, and external partners to ensure that all research security initiatives align with federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and institutional goals.
This position serves as a senior advisor on research security matters and acts as the AVPโ€™s delegate when required, managing complex compliance initiatives and ensuring the secure and compliant conduct of research across the institution.
