Job Description

The Director of Marketing and Communications for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) at Old Dominion University is responsible for leading the school’s marketing and communications strategy. A core function of this role is producing high-quality written content, including feature stories, profiles, news articles, that showcase the school’s mission, research, educational programs and impact on the community. The director serves as the primary editorial voice for the school/college and ensures that all communications reflect a compelling and consistent narrative about its work and priorities. The position also holds primary responsibility for all internal and external communications.

The director leads the development, execution and assessment of the school’s annual integrated marketing communications plan, including editorial content strategy, marketing initiatives, internal communications, public relations and special events. The communications strategy supports a wide range of audiences, including prospective students, current students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and community members.

The position holder oversees the creation, quality and production of digital communications including website content, news stories and social media, as well as print publications such as program brochures and other institutional materials.

The role requires strong collaboration and the ability to work effectively with faculty, leadership, staff and external partners.

The position sits within University Communications and reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
