Role Snapshot
A High School College and Career Counselor and Junior Seminar Instructor at KIPP Foundation who teaches college readiness and ACT prep courses while providing individualized student support and guidance. The role focuses on building inclusive classroom culture, developing students' college readiness skills, and fostering strong family partnerships.
Key Responsibilities: Teach 3-4 sections of college readiness courses with ACT prep components, conduct one-on-one check-ins with students, and lead extracurricular activities such as National Honor Society or Student Council. Additional responsibilities include developing individualized learning plans, attending staff meetings and professional development, supervising students during transitions, and maintaining regular communication with families.
Skills & Tools: Strong instructional and content knowledge in college readiness and standardized test preparation; excellent classroom management, communication, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated ability to create inclusive, responsive environments and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or related field typically expected. Teaching certification or college counseling experience preferred; familiarity with college application processes and ACT/SAT preparation essential.
Location: In-Person - Columbus, OH
Compensation: $38K–$52K/yr (estimated)
Job Description
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Instructional Responsiveness & Content Knowledge
- Teaching 3-4 Sections of College Readiness Course along with ACT Prep
- Conducting One-to-One Check In's with students
- Leading extracurricular activities like leading National Honor's Society or Student Council
- Develop individualized learning plans for students and communicate these plans to families in parent meetings and conferences.
Care of Students & Classroom Culture
- Build a classroom culture that empowers students, affirms their identities, and creates a sense of belonging for all students
- Implement the school-wide and classroom management policies and practices
- Create a responsive and inclusive environment for parents and families
- Establish and maintain working relationships with students and families based on trust and respect.
Team Support
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings.
- Participate in the daily functions of the school such as morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties.
- Embrace and incorporate feedback in the spirit of constant improvement.
- Meet professional obligations including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines.
