CodePath.org is hiring a Director of Development who will take full ownership of driving and executing the organization’s fundraising strategy, overseeing operations, managing a high-performance team, and delivering against aggressive revenue targets. This role is a force multiplier for the CEO, ensuring that every donor relationship is maximized and every opportunity is capitalized. 

As the operational lead of CodePath’s fundraising function, you will be responsible for building and executing scalable systems, managing day-to-day development operations, and delivering on ambitious philanthropy revenue OKRs. You will partner closely with the CEO to unlock high-level partnerships, close major gifts, and sustain strategic momentum. You’ll lead and grow a development team with clear performance expectations, optimize internal workflows, and execute with precision to support CodePath’s mission. You are a strategist who leads from the front, executes with urgency, and builds systems that scale.

Key Activities

Fundraising Strategy & Execution 

  • Contribute to the design of high impact fundraising strategies by integrating best practices and innovative approaches to meet ambitious goals 
  • Lead cross-functional planning and execution of fundraising initiatives, ensuring alignment across workstreams and managing up to the CEO and senior leaders for accountability and impact 

Fundraising Growth & Donor Management

  • Own and Grow Donor Portfolio: Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major funders; expand relationships and drive long-term partnerships
  • Partner closely with the Office of the CEO to advance and sustain 6–7 figure donor relationships 
  • Leverage deep internal knowledge of CodePath’s work to communicate compelling funding opportunities and drive engagement 
  • Donor Engagement & Events: Collaborate with the events and fundraising teams to plan and execute high-impact stewardship and cultivation events that convert and retain donors 
  • Donor Communications: Own the annual donor communications calendar; drive development of strategic assets (e.g., Impact Report) in partnership with the Chief of Staff and communications leads 
  • Pipeline Development: Build and manage a $100M-$150M+ qualified donor pipeline; lead the team in advancing prospects from discovery to close, ensuring conversion, renewals, and upgrades 
  • Opportunity Integration: Translate new donor opportunities sourced by the CEO into actionable plans and manage team follow-through to close and grow relationships 

Operational Leadership & Team Optimization 

  • Team Building & Leadership: Develop and lead a high-performing development team capable of securing major gifts from a diverse portfolio 
  •  Process Ownership: Oversee all fundraising operations including proposal development, reporting, research, pipeline strategy, data integrity, and compliance
  • Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement by implementing modern systems, data tools, and scalable processes that accelerate fundraising velocity and effectiveness

Key Success Metrics 

Revenue Growth & Pipeline Development

  • Secure $20M+ in new and renewed funding commitments annually, including at least three 7-figure multi-year partnerships
  • Build and actively manage a $100M-$150M+ qualified donor pipeline with 40% annual growth while diversifying revenue streams

Fundraising Team Leadership & Efficiency

  • Build and lead a high-performing development team that consistently meets quarterly targets
  • Implement performance metrics that yield an increase in funder/donor meetings and improvement in proposal-to-close ratios

Fundraising Systems & Operational Excellence

  • Create a systematic fundraising infrastructure that improves efficiency and boosts funder/donor retention

Strategic Partnership Development

  • Successfully partner with the CEO+OOCEO to unlock new 6-7 figure donor relationships

Qualifications

  • 12-15+ years leading high-impact fundraising efforts for national or Bay Area focused organizations, with a clear track record of revenue growth and team leadership 
  • Helped to raise over $50M in philanthropic revenue across individual, foundation, and corporate giving 
  • Deep subject-matter expertise across at least three key fundraising verticals (e.g., HNWIs, foundations, corporate), with strong networks in national foundations, West Coast tech philanthropists, and family offices
  • A humble, execution-focused fundraising operator who thrives in supporting high performing CEOs
  • Exceptional people leader who builds and motivates high-performing teams to deliver results and drive towards ambitious goals 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex ideas into compelling donor narratives tailored to different audiences
  • Operates with agility, resourcefulness, and grit—comfortable building systems from scratch or leveling up what exists to scale growth
  • Equally adept at zooming out to shape long-term strategy and zooming in to own detailed execution; holds an uncompromising standard for quality and follow-through 
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment working with a wide variety of stakeholders, priorities, and ambitious and overlapping deadlines

Preferable Qualifications 

  • Experience in a fast moving, hypergrowth nonprofit or technology startup a huge plus 
  • Ability to travel 30% of time, work non traditional hours when needed and carry out other duties, as needed

Compensation

CodePath has standardized salaries based on the position’s level, no matter where you live. For this role, we’re hiring for a Director level position at an annual salary of $135,000 to $175,000. Salary is determined based on your relevant experience and skills as evaluated through our interview process.
