Role Snapshot

Research Scientist I in Hydrogeology at University of Idaho serving as an independent researcher or collaborative team member on multi-disciplinary research initiatives. Responsible for conducting complex scientific analyses, managing discrete project components, and driving research outcomes through technical expertise and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities: Perform complex hydrogeological analyses and adjust experimental designs based on data; direct development of project solutions and prepare peer-reviewed publications. May manage technical aspects including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, field implementation, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance for research projects.
Skills & Tools: Advanced expertise in hydrogeological research methods, scientific analysis, experimental design, and peer review processes; strong technical writing and presentation abilities. Project management, staff leadership, budget oversight, and ability to resolve complex technical and regulatory issues required.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field with research experience; demonstrated publication record and ability to work independently or collaboratively on research initiatives. Prior experience in research project management and familiarity with hydrogeological field methods and regulatory frameworks preferred.
Location: In-Person
Compensation: $55K–$75K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

Serves as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative. May have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.

Duties may include:
  • Perform complex scientific analyses
  • Adjust experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis
  • Direct the development of recommendations for project solutions
  • Perform peer review of scientific projects, studies, or applications and making recommendations
  • Prepare peer reviewed publications or presentations
  • Resolve complex project specific technical and regulatory issues
  • Establish work priorities and performance standards, hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning, and reviewing work
  • May be responsible for technical project management to include developing the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, implementing field projects, and approving scientific documents
  • Other duties as assigned
