Summary

Part-time role evaluating student submissions for Spanish and/or French language courses on the Sophia platform. Graders provide constructive feedback and ensure adherence to established grading rubrics while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.

Key Responsibilities: Evaluate student work against grading rubrics, provide constructive feedback, check submissions for plagiarism and grammar, and participate in calibration efforts to ensure consistency. Maintain accurate records and communicate clearly with learners through detailed comments and in-context scoring.
Skills & Tools: Subject matter competency in Spanish and French language, strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency with computer applications (Excel, PowerPoint), prioritization and time management, ability to maintain confidentiality, and sound judgment in decision-making.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; Master's degree preferred. Current or prior high school or post-secondary teaching experience in Spanish and/or French language is strongly preferred.

Graders evaluate submitted student work for content, competency and adherence to the instructions and rubric for Spanish and/or French language courses. Graders are held to efficiency and quality goals.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately read and measure student competency based against a grading rubric.
  • Provide the student with constructive, supportive and concise feedback.
  • Complete grading rubrics and leave detailed feedback and comments for the learner.
  • Check student submissions for plagiarism and for grammar.
  • Provide in-context feedback and scoring using the Sophia-provided rubric.
  • Participate in calibration efforts to ensure consistency of quality for our learners.

Job Skills:

  • Subject matter competency in Spanish and French language.
  • Prioritization and time management skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Exhibits sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Work Experience:

Current or prior HS or Post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in Spanish and French language.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required; Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Must be able to work weekends as needed
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
