Summary

The Technical Training Specialist educates employees and customers on industrial automation and maintenance through hands-on and classroom instruction in fluid power systems. This role develops curriculum, identifies skill gaps, and supports training sales efforts while ensuring programs align with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities: Delivers technical instruction at Motion Industries and customer locations, develops and updates training curriculum, coordinates class logistics and equipment rotation, and manages instructor assignments and customer quotations within assigned product categories. Maintains certifications, recommends course improvements, and promotes training programs through internal and external sales channels.
Skills & Tools: Extensive knowledge of fluid power, electrical, or mechanical power transmission systems; ability to educate self on emerging technologies; strong instructional and communication abilities; capability to travel as needed and stand for extended periods while lifting up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications: Requires a bachelor's degree with technical concentration and 10+ years of related experience, or equivalent combination. Demonstrated expertise in fluid power or related industrial fields required.
Location: Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA
Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation for this role is $55,000 – $75,000/year based on title, seniority, company size, and location.

Job Description

SUMMARY:
The Technical Training Specialist educates employees and customers on basic and advanced courses in industrial automation and maintenance skills. This role delivers hands-on and classroom instruction, develops and updates curriculum and training materials, and works closely with customers and internal teams to identify skill gaps and training needs. The specialist also supports training sales efforts, coordinates class logistics, and ensures all programs align with current industry standards and certifications


JOB DUTIES
• Responsible for instructor assignments within assigned product group category.
• Responsible for customer quotations and sales within assigned product group category.
• Coordinates equipment rotation with service technician within assigned product group category.
• Schedules open-enrollment and in-plant classes.
• Communicates proactively with stakeholders to promote Learning & Development programs and products.
• Communicates with strategic suppliers to stay up-to-date on current products and market trends.
• Promotes training sales through Motion Industries' branch and corporate sales force.
• Delivers technical instruction for employees and customers.
• Shadows Motion instructors and learns how to facilitate existing curriculum.
• Teaches technical classes at MI and customer locations.
• Maintains class instructional materials.
• Recommends course improvements.
• Develops new course curriculum.
• Works with customers to determine training needs.
• Maintains and assembles hands-on training equipment as needed.
• Maintains proper industry certifications to conduct classes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Typically requires a bachelor's degree with a technical concentration and ten (10) or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
• Extensive knowledge in fluid power, electrical or mechanical power transmission fields.
• Ability to educate self on new technology and practices.
• Ability to travel as needed.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
 Ability to stand for long periods of time
 Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
