Intern Software Engineer role focused on enhancing and supporting internal and external web-based applications for Nelnet Campus Commerce products. Interns will gain hands-on experience in analysis, design, coding, testing, and maintenance of complex business systems.

Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with technology experts on analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance of web-based applications. Participate in standup meetings, sprints, and intern-specific professional development events while contributing meaningfully to team projects.
Skills & Tools: Proficiency in .NET and Angular preferred; strong knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies; exceptional problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented with passion for technical challenges and user experience.
Qualifications: Currently pursuing a degree in IT-related field such as software development or computer science with general SDLC and Agile knowledge. Previous software development experience through internships, class projects, or personal projects preferred.
Location: In-Person - Lincoln, NE
Compensation: $21–$25/hr

Specific responsibilities include the analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, maintenance and support of these complex business systems. Interns will contribute meaningfully to a team that builds technology products. This internship is with a team under the Nelnet Campus Commerce (NCC) set of products, part of the higher education offering within Nelnet Business Services (NBS).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Collaborate with technology experts • Learn new technologies & languages relevant to the team • Develop skills coding, testing, and evaluating technical tradeoffs • Participate in standup meetings, sprints, and take on projects related to the team’s goal • Attend intern professional, personal, and social development events

EDUCATION: Pursuing degree in an IT-related field including software development, computer science, or other related major.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum

Experience: • General knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), computer information systems, and Agile approach. • Knowledge of computers: preferably Microsoft packages and advancement in programming language learning.

Preferred Experience: • Previous experience in creating and deploying software (e.g. internship, class-based project, personal project, research opportunity, non-profit work, etc.) • Experience solving complex problems and working through challenging requirements • Experience with .NET and Angular COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES: • Motivated and excited by technical challenges • Passionate about collaborating with teammates and customers • Demonstrates an eagerness to learn and enjoys helping others • Shares new ideas, is creative and passionate about innovation • Detail oriented and cares about creating an exceptional user experience • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills • Comfortable working in an agile development environment and understands on time/within-budget principles.
