The role focuses on designing transformative programming that empowers underserved youth to challenge systemic barriers and develop as community leaders.

Key Responsibilities: Design and facilitate workshops on leadership, STEM, character building, and equity while embedding social justice themes into activities; serve as mentor and advocate for participants, building relationships with boys, families, and community resources. Build and manage volunteer networks, partner with local organizations, and implement systems to ensure safe, structured, culturally responsive programming with tracked outcomes.
Skills & Tools: Strong facilitation and workshop design abilities; skilled relationship builder with deep cultural competency for inner-city youth communities; proven volunteer management and program systems experience; ability to track data and outcomes aligned with equity principles.
Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to social justice and proven experience working with historically underserved youth, particularly boys, in mentorship, leadership, and/or STEM-focused programs. Strong understanding of the strengths, needs, and cultural contexts of young boys in inner-city communities.

Job Title: Sons of Promise After-School and Saturday Program Coordinator (Part-Time- Contract)


Job Overview: The Sons of Promise After-School and Saturday Program Coordinator will lead a mission-driven initiative designed to disrupt cycles of inequity and create transformative opportunities for inner-city boys in Houston. Rooted in social justice and empowerment, this program seeks to provide boys with mentorship, skills, and tools needed to challenge systemic barriers, explore STEM innovation, and develop as future leaders in their communities.

The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for justice, equity, and the potential of underserved boys. They understand the unique strengths and challenges of boys growing up in historically marginalized neighborhoods and are committed to fostering resilience, self-determination, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership and Social Justice Advocacy:
  • Design and facilitate workshops focused on leadership, STEM, character building, and equity.
  • Embed social justice themes into program activities, helping boys understand and navigate the systems affecting their lives.
  • Create a safe, empowering space for participants to explore their identities and develop their voice.

Mentorship and Relationship Building:

  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for program participants, building trust and providing guidance.
  • Foster a culture of belonging and accountability that honors the lived experiences of the boys.
  • Act as a bridge between participants, families, and community resources to address challenges and open opportunities.
  • Volunteer and Community Engagement:
  • Build and manage a diverse network of volunteers and mentors who share the program’s mission.
  • Partner with local organizations and leaders to amplify the program’s reach and impact.
  • Systems and Safety Management:
  • Implement systems to ensure a safe and structured environment for participants.
  • Track engagement and progress through culturally responsive data collection methods.
  • Ensure program activities align with principles of equity and inclusion.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and experience working with historically underserved youth, particularly boys.
  • Experience running youth-centered programs with a focus on mentorship, leadership, and/or STEM.
  • Skilled relationship builder with a deep understanding of the strengths, needs, and cultural contexts of young boys in inner-city communities.
  • Strong facilitator who can create engaging, meaningful workshops and discussions.
  • Proven ability to manage volunteers, build systems, and track outcomes in alignment with program goals.

Position Details:

  • Hours: 10-15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to include after-school hours.
  • Pay: $25-$35/hour, commensurate with experience.
  • TWTH – 3:00-7:00pm and Two Saturdays per month (10am-1pm)
  • Timeline: January 2025-July 2025
  • Location: Houston, TX
