Job Description

Company Profile Newport News Nuclear BWXT Los Alamos (N3B) manages the 10-year, $2.1 billion Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management, Los Alamos Field Office.

N3B is a limited liability company owned by HII Nuclear Inc. and BWX Technologies, joined by our critical subcontractors Longenecker and Associates and Tech2 Solutions.

N3B brings operational discipline, proven approaches and predictable results to the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Position Summary The Training Department is comprised of 3 training components that support the Engineering & Nuclear Safety Programs at N3B: Site Training, Environmental Remediation and Contact Handled-Transuranic Waste (CH-TRU). The primary mission of N3B is to protect the environment and remove legacy waste off the Los Alamos site.

The Training Specialist 1/2 is responsible for entry-level design and delivery of programs to train all levels of personnel for the entire workforce (approximately 650 employees). These responsibilities include reviewing existing training materials to ensure accuracy and assess gaps. This person will evaluate current course materials to ensure compliance with DOE O 426.2, produce necessary documentation, and modify/revise content as well as creating and implementing training processes and procedures.

The Training

Specialist 1/2 will partner with senior Training Specialists to execute training strategies, assess program requirements and ensure that all programs comply with DOE O 426.2 and other federal and state mandates.

This position reports to the N3B Training Manager.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may Include, But Are Not Limited To)

  • Maintain and update training curricula to reflect operational, regulatory, and organizational changes as well as meet standards and criteria mandated by DOE O 426.2.
  • Research training requirements and content drivers including federal, state, and local laws
  • Audit qualification standards and certification programs
  • Produce formal policies, procedures, processes, tools, formats, and templates that are clear and that comply with company standards
  • Must have a general knowledge and understanding of the DOE and its management of National Laboratories or other federal contractors
  • Assist in the development of technical procedures supporting specific programs and relevant training initiatives
  • Adhere to policies and programs concerning the N3B’s training program
  • Increase knowledge of training and development research, learning theory, motivation theory, and other knowledge within the field of training and development
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
  • General knowledge of DOE Order 426.2; and other guidance for training and qualifications records, especially those impacting nuclear facilities and activities
  • Basic knowledge of ADDIE, SAT, and other instructional methodologies
  • Prior knowledge of learning management systems, specifically Ideagen Miramar LMS
  • Working knowledge of a training program, preferably at DOE nuclear facilities
  • Ability to identify and implement regulatory training requirements
  • Experience working as part of a technical team
  • Effective interpersonal skills with ability to work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with diverse personal attributes
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job
