Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced learning scientist to join our Learning Analytics team. This individual will provide leadership in educational measurement, psychometrics, and statistical modeling. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that Savvas assessments meet standards for validity, reliability, and fairness, and conduct activities that enhance the psychometric quality of current and future K-12 educational products.
- ResponsibilitiesUse various types of psychometric models (classical, IRT) to analyze large-scale assessment data.
- Perform psychometric analysis (item and test analysis, calibration, equating, and scaling).
- Perform tasks such as cleaning data, managing data sets, and running descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Propose detailed research designs and ideas for operational procedures for item and assessment monitoring.
- Provide guidance and direction to cross-functional team members, including learning scientists and data scientists.
- Show a desire and ability to learn new technologies and techniques and share knowledge in a small-team, agile environment.
- Represents the organization’s position on technical and measurement issues with clients, external partners, and conferences.
- Designs, develops, and documents technical and operational procedures and guidelines.
- Ensures the Technical Manual is current and reflects industry best practice.
- Act as psychometric subject matter expert in support of proposals and business development opportunities.
- QualificationsDoctoral degree, or equivalent in educational measurement, psychometrics, statistics, or other closely-related field.
- Advanced knowledge of educational measurement, psychometrics (computer adaptive), and statistical modeling (knowledge of Bayesian statistics preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience with quantitative analysis and coding in R.
- At least 5 years of experience applying classical and IRT psychometric models, such as item and test analysis, calibration, equating, scoring, and scaling.
- At least 5 years of experience writing technical reports, including results of quantitative analyses.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines, including adapting in response to changes in work priorities and processes, as evidenced in application materials.
- Communicate predictions and findings to the leadership team through effective data visualizations and reports.
- SkillsAt least 5 years of experience with quantitative analysis in multiple IRT and other statistical software (e.g., IRTPro, flexMIRT, R, SPSS, SAS).
- Experiencing writing data cleaning, statistical analysis, and psychometric evaluation code in R.
- Knowledge and experience in SQL.
- Ability to adapt to change and navigate ambiguity fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Experience communicating quantitative information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
