Role Snapshot

The Learning Environment Specialist supports schools nationwide in designing intentional, functional classroom spaces that facilitate student exploration and growth. This role bridges educators' instructional goals with Lakeshore's expertise in early learning and K–12 environments to create spaces where effective teaching thrives.

Key Responsibilities: Review education space requests by interpreting blueprints and program needs, then develop 2-D and 3-D floor plans that balance developmental best practices with budget constraints. Select appropriate furniture, storage, and materials while producing clear design deliverables and presenting recommendations to school stakeholders.

Skills & Tools: Proficiency with design software and blueprint interpretation, combined with knowledge of early learning and K–12 curricula, developmental standards, and educational best practices. Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to translate complex design concepts for diverse audiences.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in interior design, education, curriculum development, or related field, or equivalent professional experience designing learning environments. Demonstrated experience in educational space planning or instructional design preferred.

Location: Remote - Carson, CA

Compensation: $55K–$75K/yr (estimated)

Job Description

Great classrooms don't happen by accident — they're designed with intention. As a Learning Environment Specialist, you'll support schools across the country to translate their instructional goals into spaces filled with furniture and materials where children can explore, grow, and thrive. Working from blueprints to finished floor plans, you'll connect educators' needs with Lakeshore's deep knowledge of early learning and K–12 environments, turning square footage into places where great teaching happens.

A day on the job looks like this:

Review education spaces request end-to-end — reading blueprints, interpreting enrollment and program needs, and developing 2-D and 3-D plans that meet aesthetic and functional needs.
Select furniture, storage, carpets, and supplemental materials for indoor and outdoor classroom environments, balancing developmental best practices with real-world budget and space constraints.
Produce clear drawings, renderings, and design deliverables that communicate your intent to educators, administrators, and internal teams without needing translation.
Apply knowledge of early learning and K–12 curricula and standards to ensure every space recommendation supports diverse learners and aligns with how teachers actually teach.
Partner with colleagues to present Lakeshore's vision to school stakeholders, fielding questions thoughtfully and representing our approach with confidence and care.
