Compensation: Not provided by employer. Typical compensation ranges for this position are between CAD 80,000 - CAD 100,000.
Rubicon Publishing, a Savvas Company, is seeking an experienced Supervisor who will help support primary portfolios relating to Literacy and/or Social Studies. As a Supervisor of the publishing team, the ideal candidate will have about 8 years experience in educational publishing, working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You are passionate about education and will work with a dynamic team to help create innovative learning solutions for use in classrooms across Canada. As Supervisor, you are responsible for the execution of literacy and/or social studies projects, ensuring that the vision, instructional design, and pedagogy matches the project vision and market needs. You may also assist in the identification, conceptualization, validation, and strategic development of new projects and literacy and/or social studies solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Execute on the Manager’s approved projects to ensure that they align with the vision, pedagogy, and instructional design.
- Oversee and verify the pedagogical approach using the relevant curricula and liaise with lead authors and series consultants to justify curriculum and editorial decisions.
- Mentor direct reports in terms of pedagogy and editorial decision making to grow their skillsets.
- Assist in the identification of potential new publishing projects; conduct, analyze, and synthesize market research; identify viable solutions and project goals.
- Assist in the conceptualization and validation of each new project to meet the unique needs of the market and ensure the vision and strategic messaging of the product effectively meets the goals of the project.
- Create development plans to ensure that the product meets key success factors such as curriculum congruence, solid instructional design, appropriate method(s) of delivery, and scope of individual components.
- Monitor budgets for each project, including breakdowns for market research, contributing authors and contributors, freelance and in-house staffing, and external consultation and reviews.
- Liaise with authors, contributors, advisors, and subject matter experts in collaboration with sales and marketing teams.
- Establish and manage relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors to meet project deliverables.
Other duties as assigned by management
- Assist management in the sales and marketing to successfully pre-sell, launch, and implement a project and help complete submissions for key adoptions.
- Support the creation of project prototypes to align with the product vision.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- About 8 years of experience in educational publishing, with at least 5 of those years working with literacy and/or social studies content
- A minimum of a University degree; a degree in Education and/or English is an asset
- Expertise and confidence in Canadian pedagogy and content knowledge
- Experience mentoring/managing a team of editors or equivalent
- Proven track record leading multiple professional and educational projects in print and digital formats
- Results-oriented, strategic problem-solver, innovator, creative thinker
- Strong ability to conduct research, test, and deploy new solutions and strategies
- Solid knowledge and understanding of the Canadian K–12 landscape, including various Canadian curricula, culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy, effective instructional practices, and emerging educational trends and developments
- Current understanding and knowledge of digital technologies, including Learning Management Systems software tools, and other web and applications.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Skilled at problem-solving and fostering a respectful, team-oriented work environment
- Strong oral and written proficiency in English; oral and written proficiency in French is an asset
