Summary

Benchmark Education Company seeks a Technical Documentation Writer to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for their K-12 ed-tech platform, serving diverse users from administrators to students. This role is critical for ensuring clear, accurate product guidance across multiple formats and user levels.

Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain how-to guides, videos, training articles, and technical documentation for the ed-tech platform while learning supported digital products through hands-on experience. Monitor product feature releases across development teams, create visual assets (images, gifs, videos, diagrams), and manage multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines.
Skills & Tools: Minimum 3 years of technical writing or content creation experience with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and web browsers; experience with MadCap is a plus. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to grasp complex software quickly, and flexibility in working with all organizational levels.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of 3 years of relevant technical writing or content creation work experience. Prior work samples must be submitted with the application; experience in education or ed-tech is preferred.

Position Purpose:

Benchmark Education Company, a growing K-12 education publisher is seeking a talented Technical Documentation Writer to join its creative, fast-paced team. The Technical Documentation Writer will support content creation for internal teams and customers about our ed-tech platform. This person will be responsible for creating and organizing a variety of clear documentation for technical and non-technical end users. He/she will be responsible for creating various types of content, including videos, gifs, how-to-guides, reference manuals, or instructions. The ideal candidate will manage multiple projects, successfully balance competing priorities, and adhere to all deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain how-to documentation, videos, and relevant technical training articles for ed-tech platform, with users ranging from administrators, teachers, students, and technical contacts.
  • Learn supported digital products through hands-on experience and use, and by reviewing user stories, wireframes, and mockups.
  • Monitor upcoming product feature releases across multiple development teams to ensure documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Create images, gifs, videos, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material. 

Job Requirements/Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a technical writing or content creation role; experience in education or edtech a plus.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and various Web browsers. Experience with MadCap a plus.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and have ability to interact with all levels in the organization.
  • Highly motivated individual able to grasp complex software and learn quickly.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • A bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ work experience is required.
  • A sample of prior work must be submitted with resume and cover letter.
